Subject: how to handle variables?

I've got a list with names using FastTemplate ; when putting a link like <a href="schueler_zeigen.php?ID={NR}">{NAME}, {VORNAME}</a>
and on the next page a mySql Statement like
"select * from table where ID='$ID'"
I have a problem reading the variable waht do I do wrong ?
