I'm not sure how you came to your conclusion. The code will work with strings of any length, and even long strings don't end up using much memory. The encoding is performed in a step-by-step linear fashion, with nothing intermediate getting saved into memory. And as I pointed out to Eugene (see my last comment), session variables are not always a viable option to replace GET variables. In fact they usually aren't.
