installing gd 2.0.1 xitami windows 98/me

how do you install gd 2.0.1 for xitami? i dont understand make; if someone would explain this i will do my best to figure the rest out but i need to know where to start

i have php 4.2.2 ... if the new gd library was as easy as the old one i could do it
