this is non-php related, i just feel the need to type since i deprived my fingers of pain all day..

on the way to school a cop had my street blocked off (my street is kind of like a Y he was at the top-right point) bc a tree was down. i goto school, i get home at around 3pm. im sittin around on my comp when im lookin outside at the kids from the elementary school around the block come outside.. THEN i hear a crack, and a 100lb(ish) branch almost smashes a few kids and a minivan(**** minivans). that was no later than 3:30pm.

its now 1/4 to 10pm and the cop STILL is parked across the street looking at the tree.. i don't think and power/phone lines are down since, well im online with power(for once the dsl isnt about to explode)

i swear, its no more than a 100lb branch, and like 10-15' long, its been 3-4 shifts of cops parking there and just staring into space, not 1 thing has been done- and the best part is this: its not even blockin the street

my town rocks  in 30 mins im goin out there and im ripping that thing apart just to make those cops stop wasting time

That really, really sounds like my old town. The saddest thing was that MBNA was pumping so much money into the city, the police force was HUGE, and there was still nothing to do. We had dozens of cruisers, all Impalas and unhooked Explorers, armed to the teeth, just sitting around harrassing the teenagers.

MBNA loves to waste money on that town -- the WORST thing that I think they did was donate something around $4 million to the local library. What did they do? They ripped the library down, dug a hole, and rebuilt it again underground. How many new books did they buy? 1. And it was a memorial book to... the town of Camden, ME and MBNA. BAH! That was so disappointing, the library really needed updated books....

My town (well City) doesn't really seem to care too much about the people who live there - more interested in building wierd things to get awards, hoping to attract more foreign tourists.

We don't have many libraries but we do have 1 55000 seater stadium, 6 bridges (across the same bit of 1 river), 3-4 art galleries, 2 concert arenas and over 100 pubs and clubs.

I think even Newsweek noticed the city a few weeks back.

Wow! Yes the city I live in now is kind of like that, we have the largest number of restaurants per capita, second only to San Francisco, and I rarely see the cops just looming about...

well I am the lucky one here it seems. My town (actually a large village) is in the country (but 30 klicks from the capital) and when I open my windows all I see is corn crops (no signs, no aliens, regular crops).
The police here is a joke but when there is something that doesn't involve being in physical danger they move their fat asses. The only problem is the unnatural number of spiders crawling around my house and the huge number of dead mice my cats pile under my car...
I am a happy redneck in a happy redneck village :D
