Whats the biggest language in demand ?

Hi All,

I am looking to learn a new langauge in the near future and wondered what you thought was the most in demand right know.
I would like to move into traditional software development (not web scripting), like Java, C++ etc..

What's your opinion on this ?:) :cool: :)

If you would like to do software development, I think C and C++ are the best place to start
I do not know how in demand it is because nearly every computer science college student learns it their first year. However, I think that if you can handle those 2 and learn about object oriented programming, everything else is easy to learn.

ive got a job... just looking to the future thats all.
After looking at some jobsites I noticed the the demand for PHP programmers is pretty low (only found about 4 in Scotland) ASP and Coldfusion where not much better. It looks like companies are not really interested in Web Developers anymore (or only want to pay pennies for them). So after comming to that conclusion I though - why not start to get good at an other language like C++ or Java or whatever. Dont fancy .NET much though.

Had a look at ABAP, is it the coding language for SAP ?, looks really boring.

Its been my experience that Java programmers are in high demand. At least in the US anyway. I think that has more to do with it being a relatively new language.

You're best bet is to build a strong Object Oriented Programming background in either C++ or Java and once you've learned one, the other comes naturally. I would recommend starting with Java though, it's constructs are less cryptic and easier to learn for someone who is relatively new to application programming using OOP.
