As a few of you already know, I'm a TOTAL newcomer to this game and I'm still trying to figure out what PHP can and cannot do.

So far, my limit is pretty much drawing up little tables and guessing numbers and that kind of stuff (I know- that IS pretty crumby!).

Anyway, I was wondering... what's the most impressive thing that you've ever seen from a PHP program?

The reason I'm asking is cos I have one or two ideas for things I'd like on my website, but I'm not sure if my ideas are a bit too ambitious for PHP driven webpages.

The folks on this forum all seem to be grand masters at programming so I think it' should be quite interesting to check out any responses that this gets.

i think these vbulletin forums are pretty impressive. the back-end and template system which is built into the database is especially impressive.

Sound Forge!!!!!!!

That's amazing!

I've been using that for years and I had no idea it was done with PHP.

Sourceforge is basically a repository for open source code. They host projects and provides a means of distribution. Projects like phpBB and myphpadmin.

By the way, same guy who wrote most of Source Forge started PHP Builder.

He's a wizard who's name is Tim. ;)

Sorry, my joke may have been a bit oblique. It's a Monty Python reference.

:)

did you edit it,

all i saw was

His name is Tim

Sxooter

No, no. I meant it was an obscure reference to "The Holy Grail" wherein Arthur and friends meet a wizard who's name is simply "Tim".

I.e. I didn't leave out his last name on accident, I did it on purpose to make a MP joke...

Aww, c'mon "Bambi Judd!"

---"Frisky Wilson"

actually the best one that came up was 'Max Edgewood' (don't swoon, LOL) but that was actually just a few cats ago and was the name of the corner street (we actually faced Wilson)

:D

BTW, quick one, good one Sxoot!!! How do you prounce 'sx', anyway??

who knows about pronunciation, many have a hard time with it on this board when trying to figure out usernames, apparently i am

sto-lzy-boy// sto, lazy.../boy

instead of

stolz-y-boy//last name stolz//y/boy

who'd a thunk

Back to the original topic, I recently had a client ask me if he could run Gallery (http://gallery.sourceforge.net/) on his PC at home....

Bambi? Coy? LOL! methinks she has not been back to the thread ;)

I am pretty impressed with phpBB, myself. I love it's templating system, even though it's hard to follow. I have learned a lot about PHP just from my work on my forum in the past few months.
