I was swimming with my 6 year old this weekend, and taught him to do cannonballs, and did a few myself, and realized, I hadn't done one in years. We rocked the pool a bit before stopping. he kept yelling for me to watch him, and jumping in, and it was so magical watching his wonder and joy at something so simple, something we mostly take for granted, doing a cannonball for the first time.
So, when was your last time?

I haven't done one in a while -- I am partial to the jackknife myself. It makes a bigger splash :D

Oh man, the weather's been great hasn't it? I went up to Lost Park and camped out this weekend with my puppy and a keg of homebrew. Was supposed to go with some family from Aurora but they had to back out at the last minute. It rained for a couple hours Sat night, but all was still good.
I did quite a few cannonballs last year at the Flashkit conference in San Jose. We were a bit toasted and had a make shift diving contest. A very scary sight :D

I tend to rock the pool with whoever I go to the pool with every summer, but since I've moved in with my mom, I doubt that'll happen as much. (We'll probably end up going to the lake more.)
So, last summer some time, unless I've done it on dry land sometime...

Arrooo? Really? Wow... I thought everyone could swim? And that doesn't mean you can't do a cannon-ball!
I doubt you'd make much of a splash, though ;)

And yes, I could still do a cannonball- but it would be what I did after the cannonball that would not be pleasant. As in thrash about maniacally for help. :)

wow. I'm down here in Centennial (because Denver just doesn't have enough burroughs. ;-) and work in the tech center. We spent the whole weekend at the pool, relaxing, after going to Elitches friday. I drove up to Thornton to get the boys and it took a little over two hourse to cover the 23 miles up there, and then back down to Elitches took another full hour.
I hate labor day weekend traffic.
Think I'll go camping at duck creek this weekend and hit Abasin in the afternoons.
and be nice to Elizabeth, she may be a stalker, but she's OUR stalker and we all love her just the same. From a distance of 50 yards. ;)

Aw, shucks sxoot- thanks! Good thing I have these peeping tom binoculars (or binoculators as my daughter calls them) and a GPS system in my watch... You did a great cannonball the other day, btw.
see how I neatly segue right back on topic and bring this discussion full circle?

And funny, this isn't the first time that the discussion of me being a stalker (http://www.phpbuilder.com/board/showthread.php?s=&postid=10298750&highlight=stalker#post10298750) has come up. Geez I need to get out more.

Sounds like it worked out great though. At least you were able to feel your age with the cannonball session :)
I've been here 5 years and have yet to go to Elitch.
Centennial is an evil place in my book  . I forgot to grab the 25 exit off 470 and ended up getting off at Peoria (already running late for a party). I finally found my way to Arapahoe and up to Aurora via Parker about 30 minutes later lol. This was a few weeks ago, so I haven't yet had a chance to recover :)

I'm doing the 23 mile loop at Lost Creek this weekend. Psyched.
Did you know we've started a php UG out here? Coloradophp.org. I started it about 2 years ago, but got swamped shortly after. Lately Stacy, from Edit-X has been putting in some time helping to get it moving. We've been trying to get a decent site together.
We were talking about trying to throw a networking party for members. :)

I'll be nice.... but with a weary eye ;)

A weary eye? Does your eye get tired? I have heard of lazy eye before, but never weary eye.
I, for one, am going to keep a wary eye on her :D

You'll find out how quickly that eye becomes weary from wariness.
She's a sly one, you'll see.

Erm, what's a cannonball? Maybe we call it a bomb in the UK. If so, you can't do them anywhere in Britain or else you get chucked out the pool. Wouldn't try it in Japan either - everyone's too busy walking - yes, walking - in the water. Weird.

Ah-hah! Yes. We call it a bomb in the UK. Banned everywhere!
Can't say when the last time was though apart from maybe over 15 years ago. Maybe in Slobbeland in Holland or was that the slide going into the sea ... great ice-cream, mind.

Cannonball - would that be the same as a bomb ?
If so.. Sxooter I had the same feeling a year ago teaching my stepson how to do it....
Sooo good, and watching his face as he jumped in was a complete picture ( he was 6 too at the time... ) now I only have a few years to wait before I teach my daughter to do the same...

Umm, cannonball. Never, I guess. I generally step in gingerly.
Elizabeth, I can swim a bit. Learned at age of 26. Find someone patient whom you trust, put on 15 lbs., you can do it!! :D
Also, you were the stalker? I thought that was the rest of us pathetic horny geek losers stalking you!!!
Chancer, is the only penalty for the 'bomb' removal from the pool? Any more information on this...interesting. :)

Bombing, heavy petting, diving (!), passing urine ... what a delightful collection of rules there are at some swimming baths in the UK. And why do we call them baths!
Penalty for bombing/doing a cannonball - nothing more than a slap on the wrists and a trudge to the changing rooms - might be a bit embarrassing at the age of 31. Then again, maybe it was just the militant life guard type who used to patrol the pool when I was 11 that I'm thinking of. Brrrrr!
And BTW what the hell is heavy petting ... I mean, what fool takes their pet great dane swimming with them ...

In answer to the "Heavy Petting" scenario...
Went shopping the other day to The Arndale in Manchester, where there were lifeguards on duty ?? (Why I don't know.. )
Lifeguard 1 - "No Petting in the centre"
Lifeguard 2 - "Looks like we were a bit late on that one"
Me - <keeps pushing the pram>
Can you guess it yet ??
