It's difficult to offer suggestions because we have no idea what your site is about. Could you let us know what it's about, what it's used for, who uses it, what you intend to get out of your site, what goals you wish your site to accomplish, etc? That way, we can make helpful suggestions. Cgraz leatherback 06-03-2003, 03:13 AM One suggestion: Start off with easy things. Particaularly if you are new to programming (??) don't attempt to build a fully new forum, before you get basic queries running. Go from there. It is all one step at a time... If you have any questions or get stuck.. Try to locate the problem in the manual, or through a search on this forum. If that doesn't lead to an answer post it here. Usually the problems posted are fairly standard, even though to you a message like "Headers are already sent" seems like a very difficult and new problem, some others will have had the same / a similar problem. Enjoy, and remember: Every master-webbuilder had to start at a certain point. So you can be a master programmer too! J. Mordecai 06-03-2003, 04:04 AM The best help out there is the PHP manual. You can find it on PHP.net (http://www.php.net/). sarahk 06-03-2003, 04:04 AM Consider carefully what you want your site to do. Maintaining the content of a site takes time so consider how often you intend to update it, what it's purpose is. If time is an issue then consider using other people's scripts. These are often free or at a low cost. The challenge then comes in understanding them and modifying them to your exact requirements. Web development involves all of these * Design skills * HTML skills * Javascript skills (most sites have some, somewhere) * Server side skills (ie PHP, ASP, Java...) * CSS Stylesheets * Search Engine Optimisation Thats quite a few different skills you need to get started so take it gently and tackle each as needed. However it also illustrates why learning from other people's published code is so valuable. turbatus 06-04-2003, 04:13 AM thank you for helping me! I intend to put on my site a photo gallery with 3D creations, a forum, of course, about 3D work and some coding (Flash, PHP, Perl, HTML...) for study. So, the design...! I know some Flash and I'm thinking of combining Flash with PHP, but really don't know how... Who's visiting my site? Who knows? Probably some young fellows or accidental surfers!:) About content updating... probably once a week! A good 3D photo is hard to make! I'm not really intersted in writing entire site on my own ( think I can't do it) just some coding here, some there to make my site look better and "feel" good! thanx for help, again PHP Builder
