Bit of a personal one I know but hey this is an friendly place.

Mine? Standing at (nearly) 6000 metres on the top (my lungs didn't hold out to be able to get up the last 200 metres) of Mt. Cotapaxi in Ecuador at 7am on a beautiful Thursday morning in 1996. The closest point to the sun I'm told. An absolutely unforgettable experience.

Watching his head crown, then cutting the cord when my son was born. August 29 1991.

Doing the same thing again September 18 1996 for my second son.

Doing 120 Mph in the straights and 90 or so in the turns going down debeque canyon in western CO heading towards GJ.

Playing Harlem Nocturne at 18 on stage.

i'm too young for having children, i don't have money to go to colorado, i never climbed a high mountain....

well.... i think i haven't done anything!! :(

but i enjoy a lot with my friends, i love them all very much. It is some kind of "well distributed exhilirating experience along the time". (when i say love them all is not any kind of orgy)

Hey! You're in Spain. That's where my first son was born. Odd coincidence eh?

You have friends who love you.

All you have to do is hop on a train and you can go from the mountains to the ocean in half a day.

Every beach you go to is topless ;)

And of course, a 1/4 pounder is called a Royale. hehe :-)

You live in paradise, and I'm jealous of you every single day I don't get to live there.

Walking a trail around WinterPark, Co. across the Rocky Mountains in winter for 6 hours without a visible trail or map. All burried under snow. And then seeing the first houses..

In 1995 I was at the game where my New Jersey Devils won The Stanley Cup. Later that year I got to have my picture taken with The Cup.

In 2000, they did it again.
In 2002, My son was born. This is #1 on the list, but I'm going in chronological order.

Hopefully, within the next few days, my team will once again be winning that trophy.

oh yeah, one other that I can't remember exactly when it happened, but 5 years ago I wrote my first application with perl, I was quite proud of myself.

2 years later I did the same thing using PHP.

As a mom, "exhilarating" isn't a word I would use to describe childbirth- more like "ouch" or "give me drugs NOW!" :D No seriously- that would be at the top of the list.

Also:
-Getting proposed to
-Walking down the aisle
-Driving on "GoingToTheSun" Road in Glacier National Park, Montana
-Several motorcycle trips taken with said husband, although I don't ride anymore. Especially liked taming "the Dragon" at Deal's Gap, North Carolina - 318 curves in the first 11 miles... that'll get your heart pumping, especially on a bike.
-The last final of the last class of my college education.

Well, I'd have to check in with the "having sons" thing too. Another child is due November-December. I'll send a cig to Stolzy, mebbe? What were we doing on Valentine's day, anyhow? ;)

Then, there was the honeymoon, 15 years ago last week, that got it all started... ;)

Lemme see, also survived a couple car wrecks and near drowning. I thank God for life, and it's pretty much exhilirating all the time for me.

However, the mountain thing is real good, dartcol....I think old "Glorieta Baldy" near Santa Fe is as high and exhilirated as I ever got, speaking in alpine terms... :)

Arriving home after being in the Persian Gulf during Desert Storm. This was compounded by the fact that when sitting in the water looking at thousands of people on the pier, you can do nothing but wait. The whole time, the crowd is cheering and partying, waiting for the first sailor to come off the boat.

Actually, that is second. First was the same event, seeing my wife for the first time in 6 months, then seeing that my mother came to see me as well. The two of them hated each other before that, so seeing them together welcoming me home was a very heartwarming experience.

Who says war can't bring people together? :)

Stepping on stage, seeing everyone stand like a bunch of bricks, and when we started to play I got headrushed shook like hell and just grabbed the moment, spilling lyrics like it was my 2nd nature, everything just connected and the crowd felt the vibe...

Like the rest of the night everyone just got all over us with compliments and asking if we had a demo...

Around midnight I had to go home and went to bed... It took me over an hour to just get the rush of adrenaline out of my body before I could actually sleep

That seriously kicked ass

The day I took down the beast (MS) and brought terror on the masses that follow it...
Oh wait that has not happened yet. You just forget i mentioned that.

- When I was around 8, and met my father for the first time.

- When I was around 12 compiled my first C app, and it worked.

- When I was close to 14 my brother and I got lost hicking in Grand Teton, (http://www.nps.gov/grte/home.htm) and remainded so for 4 hours, it was fun hicking, but not knowing if you were going to see another person forever, that kind of ruined it.

- When I was around 16 and lived through a head on collision
( although the 2 week hospital stay did suck, 24 hours in trac ( broken bones had to be 'lined up') and, that horrible catho.... well you get the idea. )

- When I graduated college (May 2002), that was exciting.

- When I got my current job while in college ( MARCH 2001 ).

- When I got engaged April `03

Looking forward to babies now. Question to all those with kids
Where do you find the time to:
a) code
b) be with your partner
c) be with your kids
d) eat
e) sleep
f) play PS2
g) go out
h) watch films
i) take in culture
j) read a newspaper
k) read a book

Just wondering really. I guess life is becomes a tad different.

a) code --- some people think I don't do this...and I don't do enough, true.

b) be with your partner --- you make time. And you don't sleep as much, I guess. But you manage. And part of the idea behind marriage is that you are together regardless of how "connected" you may feel at any given moment. However, you've gotta stay together somehow. Last year we had a goal to get outta town together at least 4 weekends, kids to grandparents, jacuzzi/penthouse suite, lots of shopping. Great stuff.

c) be with your kids --- see above, sans Jacuzzi and shopping. Fishing at a nearby lake is good. They always catch more than me :(

d) eat --- this gets neglected a bit, I guess; I mean, I don't skip, but the time to enjoy isn't there.

e) sleep --- I'm doing less of this as I get older, I think.

f) play PS2 --- rare

g) go out --- see b above. Sometimes it not just like it was, but it's OK. For instance, having the kids go along ... ;)

h) watch films --- rare. Got lots of video memberships, though.

i) take in culture --- heh, this is it...

j) read a newspaper --- email inbox gets one every day...

k) read a book --- when I'm trying to go to sleep...

Does it matter? Aren't keyboards supposed to resist coffee, ash, hairs???

a) code - I do this during work hours, and some on the weekends if I have extra time.
b) be with my partner - as mentioned before, you make time. We put our kid to bed at 7:30-8:00 and the rest of the night is ours.
c) be with your kids - IMHO this is the most important part of the day. I always make time to do play-doh or play dolls or play in the sandbox or whatever with my daughter. Kids are only young once - and for such a short period of time. I have the rest of my life to do all the other things. But there will be a time when my daughter is "too cool" to want to hang out with mom. :)
d) eat - Oh baby I ALWAYS find time for food. lol
e) sleep - another one that's high on my priority list!
f) play ps2 - well actually it's more like PC games. I have to be careful because I can become very addicted to these games and before I know it I've wasted 3-4 hours on a game... meanwhile the dishes pile up and the laundry, etc. But definitely a stress reliever.
g) go out - this unfortunately takes a back seat many times, but you can make time for it if you plan ahead.
h) watch films - ditto on the video rental thing
i) take in culture - culture? What's that? lol
j) read a newspaper - switch to CNN and get the headlines
k) read a book - a little bit every night before bed.

One helpful tip - remember that multi-tasking can be your best friend :)

Well - I do have to agree with Elizabeth on that one - kids n PC's can go together quite well... if all taken at the right time...

I spend loadsa time with my three, and my (better) other half, and still manage to get time to post, code and generally learn more about PC's / coding.

All it is is a case of organisation and time management, keep your promises to the kids and work hard when you do work, makes life very good indeed...

As to being exhilarating, just think of how "invincible" you thought you were as a kid, then seeing it all happen again in front of you - that is very exhilarating again...

Apart from that - I think walking over the Sydney Harbour Bridge in 6 weeks time will be good enough for me :-) (No kids then though...)

Most exhilerating experiences:

Skydiving on the Eastern Shore of MD. There are so many rivers and streams that it's an amazing view.

Kayaking the Atlantic in a hurricane and NOT slamming into the jeddy.

My first trip over Kenosha Pass into South Park in CO. It was just as the sun rose and the clouds, which were about 500 ft above us, had a small break in them where 1 snow-capped peak was shining through with a golden tint due to the sun. I had just moved here and this was my first real taste of the Rockies. I knew I'd found my home. :)

No children yet, but I'm sure, if it happens, that will top all the above.

I know what you mean, js - when we went camping out in Montana and Wyoming they cautioned you so much about bears, it really made you paranoid. I know they were trying to prevent any mishaps, but it was like "ok, already!" :)

Plus we had a 190 lb. black newfoundland at the time, so we had to tie a red bandana around his neck so he wouldn't get shot or frighten away the other campers LOL.

You act as though this surprises you.

I read Barenstein Bears, I highly recommend it :P

I know what you mean, js - when we went camping out in Montana and Wyoming they cautioned you so much about bears, it really made you paranoid. I know they were trying to prevent any mishaps, but it was like "ok, already!" :)

Plus we had a 190 lb. black newfoundland at the time, so we had to tie a red bandana around his neck so he wouldn't get shot or frighten away the other campers LOL.

Yeah, MT and WY both have Grizzlies, so I can see the concern.

Whoa, 190 lbs? I assume you rode him, rather than hike beside him? :D

Well, looks like I'm going to have another "exhilirating experience" on or about Feb 12... no, no it's not what you're thinking - get your minds out of the gutter! Actually it's the result...
Yes, I'm what is effectively known as "knocked up" :)

Now, you understand all the Sprite-drinkin' and LART-bashin' that's been going on around here :D

-Elizabeth Umm, nope; don't see what it has to do with that. I'm stoopid. But, otherwise, "Yippee!!"

Congratulations, as Sxooter said... May you have twins if you want them, at least 360 good backrubs, no 'ro.... (nevermind ;) ) and may the hospital do everything *you say* 'stead of the other way 'round.

Be sure and send us a pic by March 1st; and don't let this modding thing raise your b.p. ......

The increase in LART wielding is caused by this fact: hormonal imbalances in pregnant women can cause irrational and impulsive behavior... you've all been warned.

:D

(thanks for the congrats, guys btw)

Doh, Right! And we're expecting, too --- can you tell somebody's hubby spends too much time on the forums?

My wife discovered caffeine-free Mt. Dew the last time and never looked back --- but she was hopping mad when Wal*Mart quit carrying it for a while a coupla years ago.

Of course it's hers, unless she was taken to some med center and "knocked out" while being "knocked up" with someone else's embryo....

I think that we oughtta be nice to Elizabeth on at least 50% or so of our posts, don't you?

Elizabeth ----

a. I visited your site --- looks good. My brother was going to be an engineer; come Christmas, maybe I'll buy....

b. I've read some posts by you outside the Lounge. You're pretty smart, and a good helper.

c. I saw a photo of you with some other guy(s) from around here (:p) --- you're a good looking lady, too.

d. Since you became moderator, I've seen a few more deletions of spam posts. If it was you, good job!

e. I enjoy your virtual company here in the lounge!!

So, score one for the 'good side'.......

;)

Besides, Zabby knows I luv her :D

And, uh, that last one about the baby being hers was a joke, dalecosp -- in case you were wondering ;)

I'd say that my most exhilirating experience would have to be the time I finally got a chance to photograph Iceland. WOW! I'm a fairly calm individual... (you know, the kind with a good poker face) ... and I had a hard time keeping myself composed. I don't know why I tried... there wasn't a soul in sight for the 3 days I was there. Check out the photos (http://www.zebellis.com/frames.html?photography.html&5) on my site...

OK, how's this ... I propose that when the forum reaches 50,000 members, you become the "Empress of Digression." Everybody needs a lil' advancement now & then....
