I have not much experience using linux and want to install it on my second machine at home.
Would i go for mandrake or redhat? and why?

Red hat,

I think RedHat is more aggressive in updates, security measures, and best of all ease of use.

I actually think freeBSD is the most stable but I still go with Red Hat for the ease of use and compatibility. I see them having a huge place in the OS market very soon.

Good luck,
