meaning that you wan't to share files, etc....

you will need to look into samba (http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=linux+samba&rs=0&ei=UTF-8&vm=i&n=20&fl=0)

If your W98 is Second Edition you can use the W98 Internet Connection Sharing to share a connection, but you have to work a lot to get it to run with a broadband connection vs. a modem.

You can configure your linux box to be a NAT router to share your broadband.

IMHO, the best solution is get an external DSL router like a Linksys. You can get one for under $50.00 US these days.

No you can't just plug 2 computers in a hub strung off your dsl. Depending on the type of dsl you have you'll either have 2 boxes trying to do a PPPoE login, or 2 trying to dhcp an IP address, or 2 computers with the same IP address. None of which is good.

You may be able to get one or the other computer to work to the internet with just a hub, but don't count on this configuration working reliably at all.

you won't easily get it done with a hub, but with a router, say a linksys router you can, just plug that into the dsl, then spit the two ports out to two computers
