Actually, I did just today, for the 2nd time. Havin' trouble makin' up my mind, I guess.
I'm gonna keep using IE6 for a while longer for most of my work here, though.
I'm building a list of "Intellitext reserved words..." && thinking about coding a function to parse & mis-spell them automagically, JFF, of course...

dale, this won't work. The words are chosen per advertiser, so what's highlighted today may not be tomorrow. Sorry :(

to get, we must give first.
so, what we have really gave to JM is increasing bandwidth.
so, i think reasonable for them to ads in 4 words per post.
i don't know how it will annoys others
i just can't really understand it, since it occupies on the words we typed and only when we move our mouse on to the words, the ads will show.
our words didn't change, only the style change to twice underline and green color. tats all
i think if u dislike green color, perhaps can request for color change.?
green foreground with gray background,
actually, they already tried to make it very unnoticeable.
ok
it comes to what JM wants from phpbuilder.com
i think their goal are
1. a site about PHP related technology
2. a forum for PHP users to interact
// if their start is with bad intention
3. when users increase, sell their profiles
4. ads and ads more, try various way to ads
// if their start is with good intention
3. tries to make PHP an advance language and compatible to others
4. increase the user base of PHP language
5. become the 2st important website on the web after www.php.net
i mean we all aren't sure about their goals and ...
i really hope, jstarkey can explain to me and /others about what the JM wants from phpbuilder and what is their intention when starting this php language website (www.phpbuilder.com)

Obviously, I'm not at liberty to discuss JM's finances, but there's much more than just bandwidth, factor in the cost of a manager, sys admin, sales, etc. Each of which has to eat.

EDIT: as far as the difference in textarea sizes go, if you style them with CSS, they look the same in any of the top 3 browsers :)
EDIT #2: You know, with all my hyping of Mozilla, I really should join the Mozilla evangelism team. :)

jstarkey, please understand that we in no way hold you responsible for the state of things. I am sure you know that. And I stand corrected on the cost of running a board -- I do realize that there are many unseen costs, and I would be devastated if JM were to decide that phpbuilder.com was an expense it couldn't afford.
In deference to your need to put some bread and butter on your table, Starkster, I am posting this message Børk-free. I hope I am able to help you get that operation you've been needing. :D
In all seriousness, though, I do understand the need to advertise -- I always have. But I believe there are lines that shouldn't be crossed. Banners are cool. A pop-under or even a pop-up ad is just about the limit for me. 200 pop-ups is not acceptable. Posting ads as posts in the forum = annoying, but not completely unforgivable. But shanghaiing our posts to overlay advertising BASED on the words we chose to use is not acceptable in my view (and, it seems, in many people's eyes). I know it's an overlay and not a direct edit of the post, but for some reason, it just feels like a violation.
Anyway, I think my views are known, and I will not harp on it any more. We return you to your regularly scheduled programming...

<-- Agrees w/ Buzz.
Even worse: It actually modded my sig so there was a stinking ad in it (the "r.net" at the tail end of first line)
It's really evil to imply ads in my posts, but far more evil to purport that I support the adverts in a more "personal" linkage. (If that makes sense)

I had noticed, John, that the text was gone ... starting sometime this afternoon, evening...
Are you allowed to say whether or not other JM sites were/are using this technology ... ?
And, is *anyone* aware of other, non JM sites that have implemented this?
I'm curious as to what general public reaction to this would be ... understanding that we're maybe, just maybe, not entirely representative of the G.P. ... ;)

I'm pretty sure Webdeveloper (http://forums.webdeveloper.com) don't have them.

antionline.com had them implemented the same time we did. That's the only other site as far as I know.
