yep, i admit it...i've been using a mac since 1993...
and i even grew up in Redmond, Washington...it's my real "home"...i was even kicked off the current "campus" many times as a kid while they were building it (they didn't like chrome bmx bikes i guess)...however, i haven't been kicked off in the past 10 years, but a couple years ago i stole some soda pop during a visit...
oh, such an odd friday i'm having...v

i like them for just about everything better, except obviously for games, since the only one i really play is Tribes, and there isn't a mac version... although i can use virtual pc, which is pretty fast nowadays to play it...

Call me a control freak, but I like the PC's I've built from the ground up. I've looked into trying to build a Mac, but the parts are a little hard to come by, and still just too expensive for my meager salary

yep, they are very expensive, and building them is hard to do, since apple is the only manufacturer for the parts, that is why the mac os is much more stable than windows, they don't have to have different drivers, modules, etc... for thousands of different manufacturers of mb's, hd's, etc...

My wife keeps pestering me about Panther coming out. She has an iBook (blueberry) that I use for surfing when she is using the pc.
Just bought my new case off of frozencpu.com (a c3 acrylic full tower). I estimate with the water cooling and the peltier setup my comp is going to run about 1500, and she wants to spend 5k on a g5 lol

New G5 macs are good. Old teardrop-shaped original iMacs are bad.

True. Even though their processor is slower than a lot of new Windows machines, the computer runs faster because of the way it's wired and other devices run faster. I just hate the old iMacs. Damn them to hell.

Except there are pretty neck and neck since the G5's 64 bit processor.
Jobs has been said to say that they will come out with a 3Ghz G5 that will outperform the 3Ghz Xeon
and it's not just the processor, it's the higher FSB, more ram capabilities, etc...

My fault, shoulda made myself clearer. I meant 'other components', not 'other devices'. Plus we can't forget all the other goodies like the iDisk and all the stuff that comes standard with their OS. (side note:) and then there's the iPod for all your illegal downloads :D (No, I don't use file sharing programs, I respect artists and their music, and I want them to stay alive so that I can hear them on the radio.)

Hehe okay, I wasn't sure. I like the iMac pretty well. Needs more ram though. I won some ram from eBay, but it is DDR rather than SD. So if anyone is looking for 2 sticks of 256mb DDR RAM from a powerbook I'm your man.

I love my iMac. Runs apache/php/mysql without a problem. Great for dev AND graphics. I love what Apple has done with UNIX.

:D That would make it the second most powerful computer in the world; some way to go before it beats 35.8TFlop (http://www.es.jamstec.go.jp/esc/eng/ESC/index.html) though.

Any one else get into the panther madness (http://www.macminute.com/2003/10/24/panther)?

If it were'nt for Mac OS X, I wouldn't be developing with PHP at all. I'm a hardcore Mac fiend. It's far superior to Windows in everyway. Macs are not that expensive either. You can buy a new G4 emac for $799.
Another good thing about Macs is that they last forever and hold there value. I recently sold a 4 year-old Powerbook for $800. Try selling a 4 year-old PC laptop for that and you'll get laughed at.

Well where in AZ do you find these cheap Macs? Or is this online shopping?

It's a recent drop in price. http://www.apple.com/emac/
You can also buy a G4 iBook for a reasonable price as well. That's also a recent change. Paying a little extra for a Mac is worth it in my opinion.
I justify it by telling myself it's a lasting purchase. I'm working on a G4 Cube now. It's 4 years old and still going strong. Coolest looking computer ever made.
