Hi all,

I'm toying with the idea of starting up a small part-time development concern.

Short term goal : Help out the cash flow and build up a decent professional referral network.
Long term goal : To manage a fully fledged development consulting company.

I am looking for a few general and specific pointers in starting out.

Tools
Currently I am using HTML-Kit to code, and PHP/Apache for the back-end. Keeping everything GPL'd what tools would be best suited for the following:
-> Coding (currently using html-kit)
-> Project management(currently using phpCollab)
-> Version control (CVS seems way over the top for my current needs)
-> Invoicing/CRM

Design
I looking for a good design model to follow, the best I can find is the Extreme Programming model (XP), any suggestions on this. I am always in favour of hard-copy, can any suggest a good reference book.

If any one is also toying with this idea or has already crossed this bridge, I would really appreciate some feed-back on these ideas, plus any other suggestions you may have.

Thank you very much,
Indod

for coding, there are two very large threads about favourite editors, you just need to search for them. my suggestion: pspad (www.http://pspad.com/index_en.html)
