A thread for ideas (or groans) on what is and isn't available in different browsers.
Sorry if this's been done before.
I want a browser which doesn't have to be restarted every time I make a change to my hosts file.

Why would you want to change the hosts file?
Surely your DNS provider does that for you...

That's just the way things are set up here. My test areas aren't on the DNS so I have to have them in my local hosts file, if I want to see another developers test area (not often necesarry as it's all in a cvs tree so we can normally just do a commit/update) I have to add the domain to my hosts file.
we have it set up like
developer 1
http://testarea1.thesite.com/index.php
developer 2
http://testarea2.thesite.com/index.php
developer1 dutch site
http://testarea1.thesite.nl/index.php
see?

You could set up an internal DNS server. Thats what I had to do cos my router didn't like using its external IP to view an internal server (if that makes sense)

What's wrong with Firefox? It responds just fine to hosts file changes without a reboot. (Under windows at least, haven't tested *nix yet).

I think he meant a browser restart, not a puter reboot.

Yea was refering to a browser restart. Not got Firefox yet (still on firebird at work) will install tomorrow and see how it goes.
If it does that'll be sweeet :D

I would like Internet Explorer to be a good browser. It is much faster and more seamless than other browsers due to alot of pre-loading, it's just a pile o cack when it comes to standards, and a joke when it comes to security holes :)

LOL! :D
That quite beautifully sums up the browser woes concerning layout.
How about:
"The site couldn't be reached. Our guy will be coming over in a minute with his laptop to show you the pages. Please make coffee."
Er... yes, it was a bit off topic ;)

when viewing this site, mozilla 1.6 gives me a lot of css crap, and all i have to do is reload to get rid of the problem
when viewing this site, ie 6 gives me a whole load of crap, always, and there's nothing i can do about it
it only seems to go haywire when I'm logged in...

I think it may be more to due with the extra bits which have been added to the vBulletin code. Never seen it happen on any other forums.

For me, it seems to be especially prominent when opening pages in tabs. Seems to be every three pages, the problem crops up.
