Hi,

I'm building a website for a martial arts guy.

It's a pretty small website, but one of the key features of the site is a bunch of short video clips of the guy in action. It is very important for me to get his clips on the website- indeed, that's pretty much the whole point of the site.

The trouble is, the site is swallowing up bandwidth at a ridiculous pace. So much so that within only two days of lauching the site, it was taken offline for using up too much bandwidth.

Can anyone please give me some advice about what to do?

Thanks.

Do they have to be streamed from the website or are you making them available for download?

I was asked to do something similar and I found that its possible to import the movies into flash and then save them out. There was a vast difference in file size, although the quality wasn't amaxing.

You could try something like that...

The video clips are Mpegs and it's really important that they are kept as they are (the guy is very fast and some people have accused him of speeding up his video clips, so the quality needs to be kept high to ensure smooth playback).

I tried converting to Flash before, but the quality was very poor indeed and it didn't quite workout.

The kind of solution that would make me very happy would be if I could upload the actual clips to another website with lots of bandwidth and have the download coming from the other site, but without the site visitor being taken away from the main site or even being aware that the clips are being streamed from elsewhere.

Unfortunately, (as I'm sure you're aware) muchos bandwidth would cost muchos dineros.

Another option would be to make them available on CD, and then charge people for the cost of the CD and the p&p.

Staying on piersk's idea maybe still have the streaming videa but only a demo only then the CD's for the full video just a thought
