Was thinkin about getting one done...
Was thinkin of some sort of dragon-type symbol.
Quite liked this one, but I don't want it to big, so I'm unsure. Don't particularly want any chinese writing. Other thoughts have been my star sign symbol (I'm a sagitarius, so t'would be be this kind of shape (ignore the black background, if I were to get it done, it would be just the arrow done in black).
Also, where to get it done. I'd prefer somewhere on my back, so I have this worry about age-induced saginess on arms and legs, but I'm unsure about whether to get it done on my shoulder blade or to the left or right of the base of my spine, just above the top of trousers/shorts.
Anyone seen any cool dragon pics that aren't too detailed (will be small) or variants of the sagittarius symbol?
Also, anyone got any photos that they wanna show off (keep it clean people please)

Just as an update, I've seen this one which I quite like:

(I'm a sagitarius btw)
Oh, and if I get the above image, it would go on my left shoulder blade pointing away from my head.

I was thinking that you should get the bouncy guys as a tattoo, but then I realised that you can't have animated tattoos! :D
Go for that spear thingy.

If your penis looks like that then you really, really need to see a specialist. Soon.

Mental note: onion doesn't have the capacity for the metaphoric. Expect everything to be taken literally.
Got it.

Piers,
Some info from someone who has tattoos. First it's a good idea to get a tattoo that means something to you, that way you'll still like it in fifty years cause you'll still have it. Tattoos in areas with bone close under the skin hurt like a sun-a-bich, avoid the shoulders unless you like pain. Third in choosing a parlor look for one that's been there a while and take a good look at their portfolio and their flash - you don't want someone who's put the same lion on 200 arms. If you tell me where you're located I'll look through some of my mags and see if I can find a couple of good artists near you.

Thats one of the reasons I want the sagitarius symbol. Tis my own.

I'm probably gonna get it done just below my shoulder. *feels shoulder* doesn't seem to be much bone under there, so it should be ok. Basically, I don't want to be inked where there is the possibility of anyone seeing it in normal work-day attire.

I went last night to look at the place that I was planning on going to. It's called Trollspeil (in Guildford in case anyone forgets where I live). Two websites of the people that work there: http://www.jonnott.co.uk and http://www.rebeccaholley.co.uk

Just found out I'm not gonna be alone... A mate is getting both transformer logos (autobot and decepticon), one on each ankle and his g/f is getting summat, but she hasn't told me what yet.
Am quite excited about this, can't you tell :D
I'm sure I'll end up posting photos after saturday :D :D :D

If you want to see some great Tat work, check out this section (http://ultimatespin.com/forum/album_cat.php?cat_id=10) of my site's photo album. This guy lives in So. Cal., and has been working on Marvel superhero tattoos for quite some time now.

Piers, I've heard once you have "ink" it's addictive- you can't have just one tattoo.
Although, my husband only has one- so maybe he's the exception :)

Do you have some then E-beth?
As I said before, I'm not havin anywhere that can be seen in normal work-wear (i.e. none on arms/above collar)
LordShryku
06-24-2004, 12:57 PM
They are addictive. The ink is just barely drying on one before you're thinking about the next one. I did the "coverable" approach as well. I know a guy who has one on his forearm, and has to wear long sleeve shirts to work. That's no good in the Arizona summer....

06-24-2004, 01:01 PM
I always have my shirt sleeves rolled up anyway, so it's no good for me...
And I have this major worry about getting anything done in a place where I might get flabby (i.e. my stomach or arms or legs)
I've found another picture I really like this one (http://triplxproductions.i8.com/images/dragonfire0002_small.jpg)...
Maybe I see how the arrow goes and then maybe get the above one done at a later date.

I have no ink above my collar bone or below my elbows, other then that it can all be covered with normal business attire.

Heh, I briefly thought about getting one done on my foot, but, no I'm too big of a wimp... they don't give you drugs like they do when you have a baby :)

Well, Betsy, you don't know pain until you have had a tattoo... :D :p
Not that I'd know... I certainly don't have one, despite my 8 year stint in the Navy.

I suspect most php programmers don't have tattoo's. Not dynamic enough :p
The day we figure out how to tattoo with rotation based on Buzz's current avatar, I'm sure he'll get one :D

Actually as long as it's not on bone or a nerve center tattoos feel like rug burn for a couple seconds then the whole area goes numb.
LordShryku
06-25-2004, 01:12 PM
Well, muscle mass and the type of needle also determine the amount of pain. They use different needles for outline and filler. The outline needles are smaller, so they hurt a little bit more then the filler ones. I thought the back of my calf would be a good place for one, but was probably the most painful one I have. I had my foot pressed against a metal kick plate for the duration of it, so the entire time, my calf muscle was flexed. Couple hours of drilling on what was mainly outline, not much filler.

my phoenix is on my right bicep and the bottom of the tail hit a nerve bundle. that five minutes felt longer then the other 45 the tatoo took to do.

If I were to get a tatoo, which I would like to, I would get the words "What Goes Around Comes Around" Wraping around my arm from my shoulder down to about the middle of my upper arm.

Probably the main reason that I'd never get any chinese symbols done... I'd always be worried that the tattooists were having a laugh at my expense :bemused:

*bump*
It's been three years since my last one so I went out and got more. Yeah, yeah, I know I said that I wouldn't get them below the elbow, but screw that.
I took the photos with my camera phone so they're not ideal, and it was only a few hours after I got them done so they'd just started to scabb over. But here we go: http://www.flickr.com/photos/piers/sets/72157594158436048/
Still haven't got that dragon done yet (did get my tongue pierced a few weeks ago tho)

Erm... I was reading the book angels and demons (where they are blatently stolen from) and I thought "those would make really cool tattoos". Then I needed to decide where to get them done. Then I went to get them done.
I kinda like the idea of the 4 elements, being whole as a person etc
