Hello;

I have a domain name registered with a supposedly salt-of-the-earth domain registrar.

I started getting spam at the email address that I use for the account. I don't use the email address anywhere else. Therefore, I knew that the spammer(s) had to get my email address from the domain name registration information.

I changed the email address. About three days later I started getting the exact same type of spam at the newly-changed email address. Once again, the only place that I used the newly changed email address was in the registrants' account with the domain registrar.

It kind of sounds like that the registrar might have been involved in the spam.

I'm thinking about changing registrars.

Can anyone give opinions about what is the liklihood that the registrar sold my email address to the spammer?

Has anyone else had a similar experience?

Yeah, I've gotten (and still get) spam from my accounts used to secure domains. I'm not blaming the registrar though. Contact email addresses usually show up as part of the contact info in a whois lookup (In your case, a 'pnorris' account??). Whois lookups are pretty much open to the public, so I expect lots of garbage, and use a good spam filter.
