Ok, I notice that many times, posters want to put a forum tag in their posts without it actually working as advertised -- for instance, you want to tell someone the proper use of the and tags, and still use: // this php code blockin the same post.

I have seen many people use and [/php ] (with spaces), which of course requires that you tell the newbie to remove the spaces. Or, you'll use other characters, with the same consequenses.

Here's my handy dandy, BuzzifiedŽ way of doing this. If you use this technique, please send $.50 to my paypal account each time, as I'm patenting it. :D

simply put another forum tag inside the tag. What do I mean? Like this:

[php] and .

Cool, huh? (Incidentally, in order to make the above [b] tags appear in the above, I used the same trick with the italics tag. You do NOT want to see how ugly that looks LOL).

So... there you have it. My SFTOFD. If you have anything similar to share, or want to tell me how pathetic my life is for thinking of things like this, feel free.

Is someone who can't figure out the use of apostrophes really ready for the English language?

;)

I can do it using a few less characters :D

[php][/php]

This is done by remembering that the opening square bracket ([) has an ascii value of 091. So [php][/php] will also give the desired result. NB You only need to affect one of the tags as once the element is broken it's broken.

Well... perhaps not. But my suggestion is not about simply using forum tags. It's about using a trick to display tags in a way that makes it easier for newbies to understand. Telling them "use and [/php ] (without spaces) around your code to make it easier to read" is not as clear as saying:

Type this:

// your code goes here
echo "hello world!";

To make it look like this:[php]// your code goes here
echo "hello world!";Don't you think that's more clear for newbies?

True... but it's probably better to break each element, just in case. If you have multiple elements in your post, it could have strange consequences.

Ah, but I know of prior art.... :p

I hereby define the method of tags inside tags to be aprior knowledge and therefor unpatenable.

Ah, but see... I plan on doing a patent search, and the $.50 per use is simply to help fund this search. If I find that it is indeed unpatentable, then so be it. I'll use the rest of the money in the account to get drunk :evilgrin:

Ahh, but I can. Although this is a forum and there's no reason for me to care too much about proper grammar or spelling. This isn't an english paper :P

And you think English is only used in English papers (or "papers with spin on them" if the lack of capitalisation is intentional)?
