I've got a question regarding scrollbar colors in CSS. I used them a while ago in IE and it worked fine. But upon validating the stylesheet via the W3C CSS Validator (http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/), I find that the following are all non-existent properties:
scrollbar-face-color
scrollbar-shadow-color
scrollbar-highlight-color
scrollbar-3dlight-color
scrollbar-darkshadow-color
scrollbar-track-color
scrollbar-arrow-color
Anyone know of any way to color the scrollbar? I know it's just one of those "bells & whistles" and isn't really required but any help is greatly appreciated ;)
Coloring the scrollbars is IE-only crap. Thankfully such nonsense doesn't work in real browsers such as Mozilla. Think about it for a second - the scrollbars aren't part of the web page, but rather the UI of the browser.

Very true I thought it was just some more "IE-crap". Thanks for the quick reply BTW ;)

Just because everyone keeps saying "IE sucks at this", "I hate IE for this reason", "Only idiots use IE" (not exact words of course ;)) I'm downloading Firefox right now and see what I've been missing :)
Excellent. There'll be no looking back... :)

Well so far I like the fact that all my favorites/settings were imported. This tabbed browser is pretty neat although I still keep opening new windows out of habit :p (Hey, it's been about 5 minutes since I've stopped using IE ;))

All this talk about how horrible IE is...and none of how bad Netscape is? I'm saddened by the narrow-mindedness...

I've never used Netscape and really never found any harm in IE, but everyone keeps praising Mozilla so I thought I'd check it out.

I personally prefer MyIE2. Has many of the "great features" of Firefox, but still the homely feeling of IE. Besides...it pisses off Firefox users on most occasions that I haven't switched to Firefox, but to yet another derivation of IE. I love it!

Aside from bulkiness of the add-ons/UI, what's so bad about the recent versions of Netscape?
Might be a mistake to confuse the engine with the controls. IE Mac uses a notably superior engine than IE Win, but the controls are very similar. Firefox/Mozilla/Netscape share a common engine, but their control sets are varied.

Well I don't care if it's made by Netscape, Micro$hite or the Devil Himself so long as it supports W3C standards.

Oooh! I remember this forum now!!!
*bounces around*
I'm still working on getting my t-shirt made. Has the w3c logo, and then next to that an arrow which points to the logo, and the text "I'm with stupid".
I've become so abrasive thanks to W3C...I owe it so much *sniffles*

That, and it doesn't leave big, gaping holes in my computer for people to run remote code.

OT: Well that's not just limited to browsers :)
*cough*Port 139*cough*

Sure, but a tightened firewall can block/stealth those ports. Most of the IE exploits can't be blocked by a firewall because it's HTTP traffic coming in on port 80, or because it's downloaded as a plugin to the browser or some such.

Can't say that now, of course.

Sorry for the "old-thread-revival" but I just thought I'd mention this (http://slashdot.org/articles/04/07/08/2159244.shtml?tid=126&tid=128&tid=154&tid=172&tid=95) article from /. Apparantely IE isn't the only browser with a few bugs/exploits ;)

Apparantely IE isn't the only browser with a few bugs/exploits ;) I haven't tested this thoroughly, but setting up a custom preference
network.protocol-handler.external.shell
and giving it a boolean value of false appears to turn off recognition of the shell: scheme completely.

The big difference here being the speedy turnaround on a patch/new version to fix the problem :)

Thank god they patched this one up quickly. M$ has been known to wait for six months or more to patch something in IE.
Screw the standards, I'm just scared of the security holes in IE!

By the way, Scubaking...
"Ich glaube ich liebe dich" translates to "I believe I dear you."
I think you mean to use "Ich glaube, daß ich Sie liebe" or "Ich denke, daß ich Sie liebe." :D

Just looked at the config changes made by that patch. Not only does it prevent shell: from working, but it also blocks similar intrusions via:
Javascript
Microsoft HCP URL Validation
Microsoft Help And Support
Microsoft VBScript
Microsoft Media Player Radio
