I dont know weather or not there is an irc channel, but we should take this to irc.
It would be good to all chat in real time.
i suggest:
#phpbuilder @ freenode ----OR
#phpbuilder @ efnet
What do you all think.

I think we should have a sticky about the IRC channel just so that people know it exists.

What's the point of the channel then? Shouldn't a channel derived from a forum about PHP involve at least some talk about PHP?

Talk of php, I think, is okay. Asking help questions isn't. That's the point of the forum, and should be left at the forum. The IRC channel was created as a place to just go hang out and talk.

Cos the idea of the channel (twas me that set it up btw) was (as LordShryku said) to just hang out and chat about random stuff, like which burrito goldbug is gonna have for lunch and the such like :D

Whoa, this thread actually became a sticky :D
Yeah, the IRC channel will be great once we get a few more people on.
And you have to remember the rules:
No asking for help with anything...we can go ahead and discuss the future of PHP-GTK or which class is better suited for a task, but no coding questions...pasting code in IRC can get very ugly...most of the time we won't be talking about PHP anyway.
Use the same nick as you use on this forum. Makes everything simpler...and we know exactly who you are.
Follow the same rules as you would on the board, in addition to the above rules.
That about covers it. I think that's all the rules that Buzz had set out for us.
Happy IRCing people! :)

I just re-read that and it sounds like it could be a rather dirty euphemism ... it's not :glare:

That's a bit of a stretch for a euphamism. Would be better to be blatant, say something about Piersk's balls.

More people!!!
I'm in IRC now :)
Can you guys recommend a good, easy to use client that I don't have to pay for.
Unlike mIRC. Stupid program I could swear this program used to be free!
Any recommendations? I'm a cheap ass student. Ok ex-student. But my ass is still cheap...

I personally use Trillian (when my laptop's not screwed up :glare: )
I like being able to have one program for all IM/chat programs. I even bought a copy of the pro edition (). $25 which works out at about £13, so well worth it :)

Not-so-random IRC clip:
x17:25x [Davy27] I'm just enjoying the fact I've foudn the file. mmmm :)
x17:25x • goldbug hates php
lol!!
And ya know what now? It won't find the file!! Even though it's there!! I put it in the C:\php\ext\folder but the damn thing gets mixed up and confused with the /'s and the \'s so I gave up...

Try X-Chat.
Althought ist's a orginally a *u*x client there is a fine Windows port as well, I use it with sattisfaction.
Although the 2.4 version is nolonger free, you can still download it's soucecode and build your own with MS Studio or download the pre-build 2.10 version (wich i have).
There is also a 2.4 build available on http://www.silverex.info/
(Ok this might seems strange, but the fact is that Zedd (Developer of X-chat decided no that the windows build would nog longer be free, but the source still is. So some other guy decided to make a Windows build on the freely available soucecode and make it freely availabe to the public)

I would like to (ab)use this topic for a great opperunity for people to get in toutch with KVIrc (http://www.kvirc.net) [/spam :D]
KVIrc is in my oppinion a great client for both *n*x and windows.
And provides more that you could ever dream off. It's one of the few clients outthere that truely has it's onw powerfull scripting language. It's open source and free for every one.
Fully theme-able, support many different encoding types.
Has an build-in encryption engine (with SHA, Rijdeal, etc, etc)
And many more!
(and i get to build thier new site :))
So forget about mIrc, *****X (wich looks lousy) xChat and every other client. KVIRc is the way to go!

Latest IRC news: tekky and dalecosp are both stumped by a PCRE question posed by BradGrafelman. BradGrafelman and Elizabeth share a tete a tete. dalecosp leaves his desk (all night) and forgets to change his nick to dalecosp_away ....
and lots more, in real-time, at irc://chat.freenode.net/#phpbuilder ... :D

I didn't know you played. Classical training?
bradgrafelman

Heh. I don't really *play*, I just tought myself how to play some stuff. Classical, sure, modern songs (Coldplay, etc.) sometimes, but definitely Christian songs as well.
Awesome God by Michael W. Smith -- awesome song talking about our awesome God ;)

Haven't heard MWS's version. Rich Mullins, of course; Carman Licciardello did it in an interesting way, too. Speaking of "awesome" songs ... heard "How Great is our God" by Chris Tomlin yet?

Wow. Yeah, mines an electric piano (big huge antique - almost the size of a regular piano! :p) and... well, from playing on the real piano at school I can tell there's a difference between the electric and the real thing. Maybe it's on old technology, but certain chords clash worse electrically than acoustically.

Well, during a period of time yesterday (that was, in North America, mid/late afternoon), we had several peeps on IRC who'd not been 'round in a long time, I suppose.
'Tween the USA'ers and a couple of fine Brits, we found lots to chat about for a while. And, to top it off, tk/tekky bopped in (late, but understandable) from the Eastern Pacific.
Other things you'd only know if you kept your client pointed to IRC:
-Where bubblenut's going for vacation next month ...
-Which board regular is participating in a "Madrigal"
-What the weather was near London, Southampton, Missouri, and the coast of Egypt.
-Who drove (and damaged) goldbug's truck before he did.
-Who's looking for JSON ...
-Who parties on Friday evening ...
-Who's not coded in a while ....
etc., etc., etc.
If you've a client, a connection, and a "safe" office, why not just point it to our channel and leave it there? You never can tell who'll "pop in" ...
bradgrafelman

Alternatively, if you don't have an IRC client but can access outside servers on the port 6667, you can use the web IRC client I'm soon to remodel to connect.
