change the keyboard function at linux

can someone teach me how to change the keyboard function at linux?

Example: type k to result to j or type + result like Tab

Im using keymaps 0-2,4-6,8-9,12.

This is too broad of a question to answer. Map keys in what? X? Bash? Emacs? VI? ksh?
