I have been searching through your forum and have found that there is a lot of good ideas and tips for a variety of PHP problems. But the real nightmare is if you do a search for almost anything you will most likely have somewhere over 1000 threads returned for you to look through and most times only a handful may be relevant.

My though is this, I am sure you have notice that you have forums that have 60,000+, 30,000+, and 20,000+ threads. It is a daunting task to even think about reading through them to find answers. I am just wondering if you have considered the possibility of breaking up each topic into additional subtopics were a person might be able to narrow there search to a more relevant topic.

I think you have one of the most informative and helpful discussion boards and I would hate to see that change just because people could have trouble finding the information they need, quickly.

I think that is a good idea, but... that would be hard work for the admins/mods.
Many people choose the wrong topic right now and if someone is not able to
select between 'Database', 'Install' and 'Coding'
how could he be more specific about his topic?

Many people choose the wrong topic right now...

But most people DO and CAN choose the right topic. If topic / subtopic / or even a tertiary level were mandatory (i.e. selected via drop-down) then searches could be made within those categories. This would make PHP builder a much more useful resource (beyond what it already is!) for finding answers quickly.

As far as the difficulty in implementation... all previous threads would just stay the way they are, no more specific than the forum they exist in. But future threads would build on the improved structure.

I agree, searching is not a fun task, even if we do it JUST to please people like Elizabeth. ;)
