trouble installing php 4.3.9 on windoze PWS

i tried to install php 4.3.9 on my windows 98 machine. i'm running windows PWS.

Error trying to access the local web service: GetObject failed. You will need to automatically configure IIS via the management console.

my web server won't interpret PHP files.

what/where is the IIS management console?

if it's anything like IIS, it'd be in your administrative tools if you had XP, NT, or 2000 but you're on Win98. I'm at an Apache server right now, so I can't check for sure. Take a look at this, it may help you:

I got rid of the PWS years ago (so I don't remember anything about it) on my 98 box in favor of Apache. I've got it on the Win98 box and 3 XP machines and it installs/configures in minutes. Granted, there's no GUI for virtual directories and the like, but that stuff is pretty easy once you do it once.

i finally sorted it out. i had two problems...the first was that i was trying to install PWS, not IIS...i tried to use the php installer but it didn't really work.

the second was that the documentation for this process is pretty darn miserable. i finally found a posting at php.net which links to some other site...the guy had a pretty thorough approach which wasn't exactly what i wanted but got me started:
