That sounds really good, I like the fact that IBM are going to be donating R&D support (not specifically stated in the article but it was mentioned elsewhere). One thing I'm a little warey about is the question of forking. Will we now have PHP and IBMPHP as two slightly different things? This would be a bad thing in my opinion.

I agree with Bubblenut... I mean, having a deal with an 800 pound gorilla can be a good thing, but if they try to take more control and start to ruin (er, run) things, then it will be bad. IBM has a history of developing themselves into a proprietary corner...

i think this is awesome. I would like to see a stronger PHP editor similar to Weblogic, Websphere, and VS.NET.

Fair enough, though they may not be so screwed all of the time if they didn't try to muscle the people they go into partnerships with...
