I just got this message today:

-----------------------------
consulting work

Hi, i'd like to talk with you via instant messaging about a php/mysql consulting job. Email me if you are interested, *********@gmail.com
-----------------------------

While I appreciate the need to find good people to do a job, and despite the fact that I love to work on PHP projects, for some reason I get quite annoyed at getting messages like this one.

However, I was approached here, via PM, and asked to write a PHP book, which I did. Does that make me a hypocrite? Am I overreacting? Perhaps the fact that the guy asking me has never posted a single message on this board is what irritates me. After all, if Elizabeth or WeedPacket asked me to collaborate on a PHP job, I wouldn't be offended at all, and would probably jump on it.

So... what do you think? Am I being hypocritical? Should I politely decline, and thank him for considering me, or should I throw the FAQ at him?

Yeah, I got it. The email address that it says reply to (not the gmail one) seems to be valid as the website that shares the domain is there and has the same email addy on it

I guess you can politely say you're not interested...that's sort of a middle ground between politely declining and throwing the FAQ at the guy...

Interesting.. I got this, but through the contact on my page rather than the board.

Geez, I feel quite inadequate, as I am not even up to the job spammer standards apparently. :glare:

I've gotten a few of these before. I find quietly deleting them like I would any old spam email works well

Yeah, I got that one as well. I figured they could at least have addressed it uniquely. I almost looked underneath for a row of tear-off phone numbers.

I got it too, over email.
I was curious to see what the person was up to, so I replied.

Apparently a Noah Hayes wants a 'php/mysql expert' to help him optimise DB queries.
Might help if it actually looks fun, though I have my doubts.

The problem is though, it might be spam. And you might end up with money coming out of your pocket instead of into your pocket

BTW, I actually know somebody named Noah Hayes...probably not the same Noah Hayes though....

How many Noah Hayes can there be in the world? I mean my name is David James and there are a gazillion of those, but Noah Hayes, that's almost like an earth[id]... ok I mean it would be like earth[james][david][unique_id] for me, whereas he would be just earth[noah_hayes]. Imagine that, he's like on a 1D earth array man! (I gotta stop sitting under this flourescent light)
