Don't know if anyone noticed, but today (June 8th 2005) is exactly 10 years since PHP Version 1.0 was released.
We should all be thankful to Rasmus for creating it all that time ago and making it free, and also the the numerous developers who have made it what it is today, and a big thanks to the Zend creators, Andi and Zeev.

Thanks for the pointer, drew010!

Rasmus: thanks for getting PHP off the ground! Wonder if ya thought it would prove so popular? Oh well, I could Google® for the answer, but then, it'd be better to use search.yahoo.com (http://search.yahoo.com), right? Keep on keepin' on with O.S.!

Zeev, Andi: although it's likely a sin() (because we know all min() is_finite()), maybe we should gather round() and $_GET down() on the floor() to echo() our thanks for the pow(er) you have provided us poor web geeks . . . thanks for Zend, the Engine, and the Platform, and Studio, and many bugs squashed in 10 years...

To everyone involved: thanks for php.net, the manual, SOAP, CURL, the CLI (ooh, love that!), sockets, OOP support in v5, etc., etc. In short, for making PHP Rock!

All right youse guys, get on the bandwagon and sign the thread . . . I'll send it to the appropriate mail addies later today . ..

<--- starts pouring the free beer for the biggest PHParty ever. Thankfully, Molson (http://www.molson.com/home/) supports our cause by coding their site in PHP.

To the PHP Gurus: thanks for giving all of us an alternative to the norm, and allowing us to revel in "the dark side" :)

Now, who's first?

Hey Buzz,

Now we know where the buzz comes from.. 872 bottles of beer.. I asked for 1000 bottles, and got shouted at :(

Yeah, sorry... I had to put that check in. When I first wrote if for the contest, people were putting in outrageous numbers, and causing the server to take a load off for a while. My ISP didn't like that :)

At least the program still spells out the number you enter -- try putting in 43 bazillion! :D

Well, the party's started. Here in the Central US, it's after 7 p.m., so off goes a mail to the guys at Zend* and Mr. Lerdorf. Of course, he's probably in California, so he might even still be at work!

Thanks again for PHP, dudes! From some folks who've benefitted from your work, and even some starting-to-get famous authors of a book on the subject!

Well, I sent it to Zeev's publicly available email, IYKWIM. And asked him if he'd forward it to Andi. What a cheap jerk I am . . . *maybe*, just **maybe**, they'll see this sometime next year . . .

J Absolutely. That page has been there for a while, and I don't have any plans to move it.
