Hi all,

not php related at all, so I'll especially appreciate any pointers.

I am currently reviewing an article draft. It is about search engines, but since the author is not really focussed on this subject, this does not seem to matter too much.

To get to the point I would like to ask your opinion on:
He claims that there had been cases where "evil" websites managed to manipulate the browser's navigation buttons, to be more precise, the stop loading/abort button.

I have never heard any rumours about this yet, but still: it may be possible, I think with ActiveX you can at least add icons to the IE navigation bar.

Has anyone perhaps heard warnings about such malware? The recommended solution BTW was to use CTRL-W to close the browser.

Ive never heard of that in particular but wouldnt the malicious site be more inclined to have some sort of spyware/adware script or something related to manipulate the browser rather than activeX of course both methods will affect only the IE browser from what Ive seen nothing yet has been designed to target other browsers.

Now I cant confirm nor deny the publisher on what he/she has stated as Ive never seen anything as specific as that. Things I have seen is the typical Search Bars, Homepage, settings etc. Now that latter (settings) would probably how be how a malicious site could not only add/disable but store as well settings such as this.

Now Id probably suggest linking to the article.

Umm, not published yet - but it was hardly more detailed than what I wrote. Nevertheless, thank you for answering.
