Tell me where you want the poster info to be. On top as it is now, or at left like it was.

Well, 100% of the vote for the left. I'd say that's pretty unanimous ;)

JPnyc

Looks like 50% to me.

It's a conspiracy, they're rigging the votes! Call this a democracy!

JPnyc

Who said this was a democracy? The board is hosted IN a democracy........

LOL, not getting too many votes are we. Well I didn't put a time limit on the poll so we'll leave it open for several days at least.

On top. Having it at left squashes the posts too much 0 0%

MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA...ahhh...

How about a 4th option? "Define poster info" you mean the old box that used to be on the left that had the images and post counts? hmm thats why this place looks so weird....

Guess I gotta go with on the left.... this looks annoying as it is now :P

LOL, not getting too many votes are we. Well I didn't put a time limit on the poll so we'll leave it open for several days at least.I assume you can add a time limit or shut down the poll at some later time?

'Cuz we do have a "gentleman's agreement" around here to limit posts to a maximum of 90 days or so. We had quite a time figuring out who the "masked bumper" was AAMOF . . . :D

I've not voted yet, 'cause I have not yet decided. I will mention one thing that I don't think I like, but it could just be PEBKAC ... it seems that the board is indenting the first line of PHP code blocks automagically ... ???

JPnyc

There, it's at left

tekky

There, it's at left

Isnt that just a theme type setting? if so why not make it user dependant?

btw, left is much nicer ;)

JPnyc
07-09-2005, 11:49 PM
Can't, its not a theme setting. It's a global one. Even if you change the theme that would remain.

eww atleast with phpBB you can theme it.... reason #2 that I wonder why they went with VBulletin.... :P

You can do tons more with the adminCp than you can with phpBB. Much easier and more powerful to administer. At least the last version of it that I used. And the new version, still in beta, promises to be the best ever

hehe, never seen the VB admin panel, only the user side, but anything I needed to do was done in phpbb (i mean that had to be done was doable) and if it wasnt.... its a coding forum.... fix it if it dont do what you want!

Going off topic now... JP, where'd the option go to change the status text under the avatar? (BTW, I definitely like it on the left too... It makes everything sooooo much easier to read when quickly scanning the page, since it puts things back into a familiar setting)

thorpe

the poster info doesnt bother me at all the way it is, though maybe it was a little nicer on the left. the bit that is bugging me is the php code blocks. the scroll bars need to go! it was fine (great even) the way it was before.

if you can get that working i'll be happy.

JPnyc
07-10-2005, 12:29 AM
Sorry, the code blocks no longer accept % for dimensions. So being hard coded values, they can't be made too large for people with smaller screens/resolutions.

TheDefender
07-10-2005, 12:33 AM
Well, the code block scroll bars are a pain in the butt, but I usually copy and paste them into my editor anyhow, since I am used to the color coding my editor uses, so it's just easier for me that way. Actually, the new code blocks will make it even easier to do so, as far as I can tell. Plus, I can make any needed corrections, and just repost from a copy and paste from my editor, rather than from the original post.

JP, what about the status text under the avatar?

JPnyc
07-10-2005, 12:34 AM
What about it? Change it how? You mean edit it in your profile?

TheDefender
07-10-2005, 12:43 AM
Yeah. Unless I am missing it, but I don't see that field to edit it anymore. Of course, it's been ages since I last changed it, but I was wanting to change it for the last 2 or 3 days now... and can't find it anymore.

JPnyc
07-10-2005, 12:48 AM
UserCP, edit profile

TheDefender
07-10-2005, 12:51 AM
Yeah, that's where I started, but the option to edit that text (you know, the text right under the avatar where yours reads "Administrator" and mine reads "D'OH!!!") is not there.

I have Email & Password option, Birthdate, HomePage URL, IM, Biography, Location, Interests and Occupation, and lastly Article Notifications.

But, nowhere to change that status text. Is this one of those features that you, as the administrator, would have to enable for us to change it?

JPnyc
07-10-2005, 12:53 AM
Oh you mean ABOVE the avatar. You were saying under. I enabled it.

TheDefender
07-10-2005, 12:58 AM
Yeah, you mean you can't read my mind to know what I really meant? LOL Sorry about that.

Thanks for enabling it. ;)

You will live im sure, but as they were hacks for 2.3.4 (was that the old version, cant remember now its the past :)), anyway hopefully should be fixed again sometime soon Id imagine, and yes it was a good feature.

TheDefender, congrats on the boy, so whats his name?

JPnyc

There's a new mark resolved script we need to add. So many things were changed from version 2 that I doubt the old one would work anymore anyway.

Hey, JP - you seem to pop up everywhere :D ;)

I'm an old hat, definatley like the user info on the side. In my opinon it helps keep the flow of the discussion going. Signatures between posts are annoying enough but at least they can be turned off.

It would be awsome to have an option in the User CP which enabled this to be a user option :)

It's not inconceivable. But it would have to be chosen from the style chooser which appears at bottom, when enabled. I would need to hack the templates to do it though, and there just isn't time at present. My plate's overflowing. We still have sites to upgrade from vers. 2, and there's a new, and much better, version looming that's in beta now.

LOL, thanks... I sleep like a rock, and do all right. I think between the other 3 kids, I can count on 2 hands the number of times I've awakened or had sleepless nights because of them. My wife stays home with the kids and she knows I need my sleep to make $$$, so she lets me sleep. LOL

It wouldn't be for sometime. Way too much waiting for me to even think about it now. It's not really hardship for the precious few who preferred it on top to deal with on the side.
