I can't change my email address which is no longer used

I use two browsers (at the same time) but just today I used my IE to come to this site as my other browser Firefox was also online and logged in, I could not login with my normal username and password. I then went into my User Control panel and I have two usernames one that has never posted and the other one that I use. Both browsers are using the same IP so why did I just log in with IE with my normal username, and earlier I could not so used my alternate password? Can I now go and change my email address? I think a while ago when I tried to do that it said my password was wrong or some thing like that.

If you can login, you can change your email. Be aware that requires another activation email and a link in it that must be clicked.

Thanks, I just noticed something when I came here a few minutes ago and my username and password already filled in and when I clicked go I was told it was an invalid user name and or password, but I am infact logged in, otherwise this reply would be from a guest or anonymous account. Is it just that you can't log in if you are in fact already logged in?
