:)
I downloaded and installed Internet Explorer 7 Beta 3.
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/default.mspx
I find there are still CSS issues not fixed in IE7.
I use Firefox as my default browser.
No reason now for me to change to IE7.
Internet Explorer 7 Beta 3 is a major step

Didja c tha acid test wit it?
Mucho mal...
I did not know about Acid2 test.
Here you can test your browser: http://www.webstandards.org/action/acid2/
Internet Explorer 7 does not pass this test.
And my present Firefox version does not pass.
securingwindowsxp/p/aaprie7v1.htm (http://netsecurity.about.com/od/securingwindowsxp/p/aaprie7v1.htm)Acid Test:
Microsoft has acknowledged that IE7 will not pass the Acid2 test. Acid2 was created by the Web Standards Project to validate a web browser's compliance with support for W3C (World Wide Web Consortium) recommendations including CSS1 (Cascading Style Sheets), HTML4 and PNG (Portable Network Graphics).
It should be noted that the other major browsers such as Firefox, Opera and Safari also fall short of passing the complete Acid2 test.

Uhh, that article is a bit wrong, as IIRC, recent versions of both Opera (build 8249/9.0) and Safari (version 2.0.2/416.12) pass the Acid2 test. Once Firefox gets off its rocker (http://fireflow.zendurl.com/) and fixes some of their CSS/rendering issues, they'll basically strand a *new* browser as the only major not passing.
(Don't forget that Dave Hyatt pretty much single-handedly whooped the Acid2 test for Safari in three weeks...it's sad that MS, with all it's resources, can't throw some talented developers and money at the problem, just to quiet the naysayers on release day)

IE's problem is probably because many large companies have standardized on IE and to be 100% compliant could create backwards compatibility issues with sites built to work with the non compliant issues.

Not true... that's why you then have two rendering engines: quirks mode and regular. Sites that are not validated (which takes all of 10 seconds to check) would render in the new IE "Quirks" mode which would be the old engine. If it validates, then it uses the new standard engine.
Or, the old pages just need to add a comment that IE looks for. Something like:
<!-- if[IE7] Quirks -->
I love the tag-line they're using:
We heard you...
you wanted it easier and more secure
The same could be said about many of its products ;)
But I still see no reason to switch from Firefox/Opera :)

Yes IE7 is apparently up to same old tricks as IE's that came before. My friend sat down at his computer today to find his home page had been hijacked and reset to some site in the Ukraine.

IE7 Beta 3:
Better CSS standards support (finally)...
Same old JS crap.... (doesn't support XMLHttpRequest, needs MSXML2 or Microsoft.XMLHTTP)
-- Doesn't support responseXML object :(
Same old general "We're making it easier by hiding things!!" with IE....
Seems slower than IE 6 during load-up
Still doesn't have "plug-in" features like Firefox for ad-blocking and webDev tools....
Zoom feature.... frill but no use...
Still can't "theme" IE easily.....
Tabbed browsing could use work... IE and Opera are good with it ;)
It's not STANDALONE!!
Why must IE be integrated so much into the OS that you can't make it stand-alone? Why can't we run IE 6 alongside IE 7?!? Would be so much help to Web Devs with CSS....

THEY FIXED PNG SUPPORT! AT LAST!
Um, have they figured out how to display progressive JPEGs progressively, yet (the way Netscape 4 did)?

I just want it to be DONE, finished, completed then automatically FORCE everyone using a previous version of IE to update... so we can move forward as a web development community into the future.

...then automatically FORCE everyone using a previous version of IE to update...
Man o man, regardless of any good/bad points about IE7, this is one thing that would be SO SWEET. Too bad it'll never happen :(

If there was really only one browser then that browser would never be improved because there is little benefit (you already have everyone). This is one of the main reasons IE 6 was not upgraded for so long as it never had any real competition till now.

That's because the browser is driven by a company that wants to make money.
We need to capture some Star Trek nerds and force then to develop a browser for the benefit of man-kind :)

Seems it actually progressively displays the image.... so I'm going to say the progressive JPG support got better ;)

I've been using IE 7 Beta 1/2/3 and I really like the new look and additional features, however there are still bugs. Enough that my testing is over I am jumping back over to Firefox. Maybe when IE 7 comes out officially i will give it another go.

Original Post: If IE 7 follows the path Office 2007 & Vista have.... it won't come until the new OS....
I'm an idiot, and it should have been worded like this:
If IE 7 follows the path of Office 2007 (being pushed back to the Vista release) and Vista (with slow development and date push-backs), IE 7 won't come out until Vista where it will be the default browser.
Better Jason?

I meant that specifically for office... them pushing it back to the Vista release... .and for Vista... the delays and slow progression of code.....
and now re-reading it... it does sound stupid ;)
Edited my post above....
