I've always thought I'd be kinda nice to have a post going where we can learn a bit about each other... How you got into PHP, what you are doing with it, where you hope it will take you. If you're doing it for fun or for work? How? All that jazz... So I'll start off:

Name's Geoffroy, I'm from France. Senior in high school, living in India after a couple years in Seattle in the States. (Why India? Cuz my parents wanted to see Asia :queasy: ). I've been programming in one form or another since I was eleven or so. Started PHP in 2005 for fun with a little login script :P Since then I've learned a lot, I think, from this site, from PHP.net, and from my own trial and error. I've done two projects in php, eFamz.com and Zoopla.net. Not for school or anything, just for fun, in the hope of making money, and I suppose for college apps too.

So what about ya'll?

An opportunity to talk about myself, well since I rarely talk about myself how can I pass up this chance

My name is [wait for it] Jason Batten and if you google me, I'll google you ;) I live in [wait for it] Perth, Western Australia, Australia. I am 21 years of age heading closer to 22 which is absolutely frightening. I've been clogging the internet with poorly marked-up HTML since mid-2000. In late 2004 I really started to play around with PHP and tried to learn it. Was finally able to understand it after reading a book, online tutorials suck and I will be attacking that issue shortly. I wanted to learn PHP to create a CMS for my gaming web site, I'd already used a few CMS's like PHP Nuke but they just weren't what I wanted / needed. In early-mid 2005 I was offered a "web site" project to develop for my brothers work, here I am unemployed and loving it! I'm probably the only Web Developer who has a certification in Youth Work and maybe the only one who done door-to-door sales & enjoyed it. I want to become certified in PHP by Zend (http://www.zend.com/education/zend_php_certification), that is my goal and something which is very important to me.

My passion for web development is great. I honestly still smile when I do the most simple things such as type basic HTML tags in a text document (with .html extension of course) then open it in a browser. You'd think I'd be over it by now but nope LOVE IT :D

My life outside of the browser: *insert ambient noise of crickets here* No, I have a life... it's not the most exciting one at the moment and hasn't been for the past 8 or so months but it's all time well invested in my mind. I really enjoy listening to music which is another untapped passion of mine (Queen rock!.. you, rock you..), music has so much to offer and captures time better than photos.

The future: I'm going to be rich because money will buy the things that will make me happy! - The opportunity to spoil and take care of others.

Now forget what you just read before I beat it out of you

My name is Eric. I've been programming since 1979. Been married for 11 years. I'm a pretty good pool player and recently took up fencing which I love. I picked up PHP because I sensed that there was more to web sites than animated gifs and blink tags. I'm a dog person.

I work in Helsinki University data center as a cleaner. My job involves cleaning toilets, scrubbing the floor, licking the ass of my manager & sucking up to my supervisor. I have been in my current job for 2 years & been demoted twice during this peroid.

In my spare time to make more money I have a market stall where I sell vintage condoms. I specialize in tobacco flavored & used condoms dating back to the 1950's.

I am currently studying for a diploma in personal hygiene & body odour. I have leanrt basic topics such as how to wash my face & the importance of having a shower everyday. The course lasts for 3 years & I am paricularly looking forward to advanced topics such as how to shave off your pubes & creating a border around your armpit.

My work colleagues say that I'm a sad person who needs to go out more & make some friends. Recently a customer described me as someone with inextricable bad breath, decaying teeth, excessive bodily hair especially on the back, nose & mouth. Currently I am looking for someone to loose my virginity to.

Passions:
Making $£€...

Sports:
Fishing & then eating my catch

Cuisines:
McDonalds

Education:
Elementary school

Occupation:
Dustman

Job description:
Cleaning toilets

From my past relationships i learned::
Don't spend money on chicks

Five things I can't live without:
1. Water
2. Food
3. Money
4. Toothpaste
5. Chicks

Do you want to be my friend? :xbones:

My name's Michael and I'm 21. I was a CS major down at Georgia Tech, until I failed out (which I place full blame for on my ex-girlfriend, even if we weren't going out at the time). I've since switched to Public Relations (gasp!), but still love to stare at code (primarily C++ and Java) until I see daylight, at which point I go hide.

I work part time at a local UPS Store, chill with friends down at GT, and have taken classes at more colleges in the state of Georgia then most can name.

Currently I'm working on a multi-user football web-game, which is why I'm teaching myself PHP.

I am a web developer in Lincoln Nebraska. I worked as a professional musician and sound engineer for over 10 years (1979-1992). I have an associates degree in audio engineering from Full Sail Center for the Recording Arts in Winter Park Florida. I have been married for 8 years. I have four children. I was born with an eye disorder called Aneridia which prevents me from driving but doesn’t really affect my use of computers. I recently had retinal detachment surgery, which actually improved my vision considerably.

During my time at Full Sail I got interested in computers and started doing HTML and then Javascript. I worked as an ASP developer for a short time, got laid off, did some freelance programming which is when I picked up PHP. I now work for a small web dev company in Lincoln. I have also written a few tutorials for Developer Shed.

I’m looking for a change however. Unfortunately I can’t seem to find anybody in this area to network with. I have no insurance and I’m pretty overworked (no vacation because there is nobody to hand work off to). We have no testing server at work so I do most of my stuff live, which really sucks. I get yelled at no matter what I do sometimes, but I have no control over it at all. The IT job situation is very un-healthy here, but for a variety of reasons I’m stuck here at the moment.

I really want to learn Java, but finding the time to do it has been almost impossible. I have the basics of the language down but need some time to play around with it and get some more advanced knowledge.

I'm currently building a deck on the back of my house, which is taking forever thanks to the rainy weather we have had this summer and fall. I'm hoping to get it done soon before the snow falls.

A little bored so I thought I'd blow the dust of this post and add something.

I'm Dougal and I'm from Scotland. I live in Edinburgh, only a few minutes walk from the castle (http://www.danscartoons.com/edinburgh-castle.jpg)! Which is right in the middle of the city itself.

I am a software engineering student and I'm currently in my 4th year working towards an honours qualification in software engineering.

After the summer I may go on to do a Master in software engineering... However I am still undecided.

I seem to spend my life on computers... doing university work and so on. I've also got a part time PHP job for a desktop publishing company. It's good experience and I enjoy it. PHP is one of the languages that I enjoy the most. I like others but PHP doesn't force you to use certain methods. IE. programming c# is good but its OOP or nothing.

I am learning more PHP daily and I just want to learn more always but I find it harder to get good sources of information the more I learn.

Oh, I'm 21 and loving life too ;) I try my hardest not to be a computer geek (all the time.)

I think I'm going to leave mine the way it is - that way I'll perpetually be 32 and my kids will stay little forever :)

I work here. I'm a designer/programmer/thinker. Preferrably doing conceptual work rather than the ugly stuff.
