Hey everyone,
I set up a torrent installation on my current server only for my host, dreamhost, to tell me to shut it down. I have looked at many different hosts, and none of them allows torrent installions. Its a great way to upload very big files. Do any of you know of a host that would allow me to install torrentflux on its server?
regards

Do you mean a tracker or a client? I can't see much reason to set up a tracker, as there are tons out there already. As for the client, I can see their point, if it is using up a lot of bandwidth, etc...
OTOH, if it's just to seed your own software or music or what not, I'm not sure I see the problem. Is it explicitly against your provider's TOS, or just a general thing they to as "piracy prevention" in which case, if you're sharing your own intellectual property, seems a bit premature here.

basically i'll be downloading anime for my website so I'm looking for a host that will allow a client, I already found mthe client, torrentflux.com, and once the anime is downloaded, i wont seed. I can work within a bandwidth allowance, but what i am looking for is a host that would actually allow a bittorrent installation.

You will absolutely require a dedicated server, as no shared server provider can trust any junk like that on a shared server.
Find your preference of dedicated provider, and detail what you plan to do (Obviously it mustn't be illegal locally), and ask them if it's against their conditions before signing up.

thx for the reply, though thats worst case for me, i'll just have to do thing manually with my mods helping as well until my site gets big enough to support a dedicated server. I have actually come across several hosts that allow people to run a torrent client on their servers because its no different from you average CMS except it chews bandwidth. anyway, so far, i have only found sites that have a general rule against anime, or require that you may only seed your own stuff, i.e. if you own the copyright. If you ever find a host that has no qualms with torrent clients and anime, please remember this thread.

found my host http://www.surpasshosting.com, they seem like very good hosts and offer 200GB disk, and 2000GB bandwidth for $6/month, perfect for my needs, but they do seem to overcharge on domains, its cheaper to register elsewhere and just play with the nameservers
