Anyone know one that's great and cheap?

I don't have a dedicated server with them, but I have a VM with Bytemark (http://www.bytemark.co.uk). It might be worth thinking about whether you actually need a dedicated machine, or do you just want a virtual one.

Otherwise they also do dedicated machines, or you could check FastHosts (http://www.fasthosts.co.uk). Bear in mind that both those companies are in the UK, but they're both very good. And fairly inexpensive. With the fasthosts package you get unlimited bandwidth too

Hostdime is a good one. http://www.hostdime.com/

Based in Florida.

P.S. There's no such thing as unlimmited bandwith. Even 'unmetered' plans, have a cap just based on the reality of the math.

P.S. Read their T&C: Fasthosts offer unlimited web space and bandwidth with some account types. By this, we mean unlimited space for legitimate web site content and bandwidth for visitors to view it. All files on a domain must be part of the active website and linked to the site. Sites should not contain any backups, downloads, or other non-web based content. We will treat all password protected archive (e.g. zip and rar) files as unacceptable. Multimedia content such as audio and video is acceptable provided it is streamed to the user, links to HTTP download of this content is not acceptable. Fasthosts offers a streaming media service for this type of content.

Seems to me like they do mean "Unlimited" for web content, which is what I'd use it for...

Too right Weed. Just been posting in this thread (http://www.phpbuilder.com/board/showthread.php?t=10338729) where poor old cadkins has hit a brick wall now his site is getting 100 concurrent users.

Here is what I posted there

All you folk who run your own servers have forgotten what co-located servers are like. It very much can be the network when you do not control that network.

An example from Fasthosts

With unlimited bandwidth rates and our high speed connection, no matter what level of demand is placed on your dedicated server, you'll never receive an additional bandwidth bill.

* You only pay the standard monthly rate for your chosen dedicated server.
* Your dedicated server will experience lightning fast connection speeds at no extra cost.
* Up to 10 Mbps virtual data pipe – just like having your own leased line.
* Uncapped download & upload levels - no limits on the data that can be exchanged.

Yes, UP TO 10Mbps. WOW now there's an offer you can't refuse - and it is their top line special no less

In some places you can be lucky to get 3-4Mbps real throughput from them. Does not matter for your own personal little dev server or blog, but just wait till you get popular. Thing you all forget is that the big cost is the leased line connections to the internet backbone that costs most for an ISP, all the other stuff is dirt cheap these days.

I dunno what a T1 is these days but last time I looked it was £23,000 per month in the UK from BT.

Maybe. I just don't like hosts that offer anything "unlimited". It means that somewhere in the fine print, they've actually specified your limit, and its so low they don't want to brag about that.

I like to know what the specs of my plan are down to the detail so I know when I have to upgrade. There's nothing worse than suddenly waking up to find your sites been suspended since you "overused resources on our cluster".

Have you found the offshore dedicated server (http://gigabitdc.com) you are searching for? I've been very happy with gigabitdc.com
