would anyone have a use for a website that list's local Take-Away's with contact details and a Plain text / PDF copy of their menu's?

Personaly i would find it useful as i always find that i've gotta trawl the local phone book to find a phone number even then i don't know what they offer and their prices etc.

I've considered writing such a website as a project as i've finished everything else.

let me know your thoughts on this idea.

my friend did something sort of similar to this... he made a site that gives college students the ability to find local restaurants and print off coupons for that restaurant. he went around to different businesses and gave them a pitch, if they went for it, they'd set up coupons for him. The only way I can see something like your project working as a service, not just a fun program for you, is to get a group of people locally to build up data for you, then get that set up for your town, then expand to bigger places as you get more traffic. It's gotta be user controlled.

But in short, yes. :)

yeah the idea was to have a part of the site where users can add details for Take-Away's not all ready listed

You're using "Take-Away", "local restaurants", "print off", "gave them a pitch", "if they went for it", "set up coupons for him", "not just a fun program for you" as code words for something else aren't you? Guys, you guys.

Well, I'll be ready to place my "order" for "food" as soon as everything is set up.

And hell yes Horizon, these things *have* to be user controlled, otherwise the cops can find out about it.

Well we already have lots of these kinds of directories in the UK, heck we've even got a directory just for the little market town I live in. Of course it is up to the take-away whether they have a website with a menu on it. But don't you get loads of leaflets and menus stuffed through your letters box anyway?
