I am looking for a free forum plugin. It looks like phpBB may be the way to go, or is there a better solution out there?

It looks like phpBB may be the way to go, or is there a better solution out there? schwim 09-15-2007, 01:05 PM There are tons of free forums. There are few that are as popular, stable or mature as phpBB. The other side of the coin is that it being the most popular also rings true for exposed vulnerabilities. Many people go for lighter forums, since many do not need the extra resource usage that phpBB requires. I'm using Viscacha (http://www.viscacha.org/) on one of my sites right now, just to try something new. It's very stable and has got a lot of features, but for my purposes, the features are more useful than phpBB's. thanks, json reddrum 09-15-2007, 01:15 PM Do you think viscacha is easer to install than phpBB, I only need basic functionality. bpat1434 09-15-2007, 01:27 PM A good place to compare forums is over at www.forummatrix.org You can compare iPB with vB with SMF with phpBB with myBB with Vanilla with whatever you want!! It lists all the features they currently have against the others. Pretty good tool. schwim 09-15-2007, 01:30 PM hi there reddrum, If you need minimal functionality, I would not go with either. Consider SMF (http://www.simplemachines.org) or Chipmunk (http://chipmunk-scripts.com/board/index.php). SMF is stable and quick. A good spot to see what's available is Hotscripts (http://www.hotscripts.com/PHP/Scripts_and_Programs/Discussion_Boards/index.html). thanks, json reddrum 09-15-2007, 01:36 PM Great thanks everyone!!!
