Could be worse, you could have gone through what I did:

- Apartment Robbery
- G/F assaulted

All while you are 20 minutes away .... sucks your car got b0rken into, but it happens. Hopefully you have good insurance :)

Ouch. Yeah, I'm glad it was just the car - I'm pretty sure my insurance will cover it but I'd be so screwed if somebody looted my room. I don't even know how much I've got tied up in my computer systems. :\

Sorry to hear about the car, I was robbed in a hotel when i was on holiday this year.

I guess everybody in this form is like that!

Heh... perhaps you were robbed because the hotel screwed up!!

Two quick stories:

1.) I was on my family reunion trip to Pennsylvania and we checked into our room and they gave us the keys and we were on the first floor. We open the door, start to walk in, and there's an open laptop, hot coffee, and clothes hanging up. So we walk back to the desk and inform them they gave us the wrong room. Oh, forgot to mention that the clothes were state police uniforms ;) We almost "robbed" a cop!!

2.) This past family reunion (once again in Pennsylvania) my cousin's room got looted. Somebody came in and stole CC numbers and cash. Left the laptop sitting on the table, but took the maxed out CC numbers!!

Hmm... now that I think about it, my family reunions usually end up with some type of mistake somewhere, be it getting lost in a national forest, being robbed, getting kicked out of a park for excessive drinking.... :)

well they had no security - Laptop, camera, cell phone and money was taken from the room while i was sleeping.

The worst part was the police wrote the report in a barbie jotter. You know like the thing kids have at school when they are about 7.

*edit* forgot to mention this, they got into the room because the hotel door was a bit broken - if you lifted it as you slid it the lock was bypassed. Needless to say i figured this out the next morning.

I've got to be to sleep through my snoring! I'd also drank a bottle of wine the night before...

I'm gonna have to sell it or something and buy something that'll be less of a target, I guess. It blows - I don't even live in a bad area. :/ It's weird, though - yeah, it's a Camaro, but it's a '92 and it's not in perfect condition, obviously. I just don't get it - they must be going after it cause they're so easy to break into.

Reminds me of a friend of mine. He had a MGB rag-top. He would purposely leave it unlocked so that thieves would not break a window or scratch it up while trying to break in if they wanted to steal something. So one day while at the shore, someone broke in to steal his sunglasses. Unfortunately, they broke in by cutting a huge gash in the rear (plastic) window so that they could get in, apparently not bothering to try the doors first.

Sorry to hear it Horizion88. I feel your pain. But twice in such a short time - perhaps it was the same person?

My car was parked about 20 yards from where I live. Stupidly forgot to take the stereo facia with me. Next morning a neighbour knocked to say the car had been broken into. Stereo was gone, and everything in the glovebox. Passenger side window was on the floor, there were several cracks in the windscreen. Several body panels torn off. I guess they really wanted in.

We noticed a small patch of a dark red substance on the dash and so got the police out. They took a sample and left. Didn't think much of it until a few months later when they called to say they had a DNA match! The guy they caught claimed he cut himself while looking inside the *already robbed* car. I think he went to prison for repeat offences. There is some justice.

Oh and the insurance payout was enough for a new stereo and car alarm

That's cool shrike, but you must live in a different area - here in Omaha, they don't even come look at it. I had a screw driver ON THE FLOOR of my car after the first break in and I could see fingerprints on the handle of it just looking at it, but they didn't even ask me to keep it. They just gave me the report number to file the insurance claim. And as to the two people thing - I thought about it, but they're too different - the first time they tried to steal the whole car, couldn't, and just took some stuff. This time I think it was just somebody looking for something to pawn - they took an ashtray full of pennies, for god's sake.

Just wait until you go outside for work at 4am, all the windows are busted out of your car, nothing stolen, the alarm never went off, and you find out a week later it was some gangsters who though it was another guys car because they showed up at your door expecting to collect money...ONLY to be disappointed that someone gave them the wrong address and a description of a car parked in front of the house.
