Damn not having much time and having an awesome life away from computers :P NogDog 06-18-2008, 02:11 AM You have a life away from computers? Why...I ought to ban you right now! :glare: laserlight 06-18-2008, 02:34 AM Everyone else make the switch today? Yes, I did. You have a life away from computers? Why...I ought to ban you right now! For punishment, we should make dougal85 a moderator instead :D leatherback 06-18-2008, 07:13 AM Yes, I got it just now. Was thinking though.. is there any reason not to switch? I mean.. What are the chacnces that all CSS support is so different that the need for older versions remains? bradgrafelman 06-18-2008, 12:28 PM is there any reason not to switch?Add-on compatibility? Not all will be compatible with the latest version yet. rulian 06-18-2008, 12:50 PM I'm still rockin 2.0.0.14 represent! rikmoncur 06-18-2008, 05:20 PM My favorite Rich Text Editor has stopped working. Which editor, if you don't mind saying? rikmoncur 06-19-2008, 05:41 AM It's Kevin Roth's Cross-Browser Rich Text Editor (RTE). I've found it to be the easiest and smallest to install. Firefox 3 is inserting style references into the editbox but the chap is aware of the problem and presumably he's working on a fix. NogDog 06-19-2008, 10:25 AM I heard that the Firebug add-on is not working with FF3, which may impact a lot of web developers. bradgrafelman 06-19-2008, 10:38 AM Really? Perhaps they haven't gotten the latest version: Firebug 1.2 requires Firefox 3. Firefox 2 users should install the older 1.05 version of Firebug. NogDog 06-19-2008, 11:02 AM Maybe because 1.2 is still a beta release so is not automatically available? JPnyc 06-19-2008, 02:37 PM http://dvlabs.tippingpoint.com/blog/2008/06/18/vulnerability-in-mozilla-firefox-30?1=1 HostV 06-20-2008, 10:21 AM I've got firefox 3 for almost a week. Satisfied. bpat1434 06-21-2008, 12:49 AM I've been running FF3 since the first public beta. Loved it. I've also been using my typical extensions (AB+, Filterset.G Updater, Firebug, WebDev Toolbar). The betas used to really crash on me all the time if I opened too many tabs, or a specific tab had some hearty JS or client-side code to compile/run. Seems like they fixed that issue. Unfortunately, there is already a security vulnerability; although, you have to be stupid enough to click on the link. Now... if only Thunderbird could get going on a faster release cycle.... Weedpacket 06-21-2008, 02:50 AM Now... if only Thunderbird could get going on a faster release cycle....And Sunbird could get on a release cycle .... laserlight 06-21-2008, 02:50 AM Unfortunately, there is already a security vulnerability; although, you have to be stupid enough to click on the link. To get rid of the security vulnerability immediately, you have to switch away from Firefox entirely ;) I think I'll just wait for the fix to be released. NogDog 06-21-2008, 03:26 AM According to the article JPnyc linked to, the vulnerability is not specific to FF3, but is also in FF2 (and presumably inherited from it by FF3), so you would not be increasing the security risk by upgrading -- at least not with regard to that particular issue. laserlight 06-21-2008, 03:52 AM the vulnerability is not specific to FF3, but is also in FF2 (and presumably inherited from it by FF3), so you would not be increasing the security risk by upgrading -- at least not with regard to that particular issue. Yes, hence downgrading to Firefox 2 is not good enough if you want a fix now. bradgrafelman 06-21-2008, 11:48 AM What would you propose? Switching to IE? laserlight 06-21-2008, 01:08 PM What would you propose? Switching to IE? Opera, perhaps? Or you can go my route: be prepared to wait :) bpat1434 06-21-2008, 02:00 PM Oh, I'll wait... or just click links I know are going to be legit ;) As for Sunbird, the only reason I'm using Thunderbird 2 on my desktop is because it integrates with Lightning so much better than the current "betas" of Thunderbird. NogDog 06-21-2008, 02:44 PM From what I've seen, there is no evidence that the security flaw in FF2/3 has yet been detected by anyone other than the security group which reported it, and therefore that there are, in fact, any damaging links out there to be clicked. At least we know Mozilla is aware of it (http://blog.mozilla.com/security/), and I suspect there's a high likelihood there will be a security patch out before any hacker actually discovers it and creates an exploit. dougal85 06-22-2008, 09:29 PM I'm still rockin 2.0.0.14 represent! I just downgraded to 2.0.0.14 due to consistant crashing in FF3. It crashed on me probably every 20 minutes on average. nrg_alpha 06-29-2008, 05:09 PM The only issue for me in Firefox 3 is that occasionally, hitting F5 will not refresh anything. So when I am working on my website, and I make changes in Dreamwever, then jump back to FF3 and hit F5.. nothing :( The other browser that I have started using (and growing increasingly fond of) is Opera 9.5 RC.. I like the new look.. and it is certainly faster than FF3 (not by much granted.. but it IS faster..Especially when switching between tabs I also downloaded and tested Safari 3.1.2 for windows.. oh my.. fastest browser I have seen yet.. especially Javascript execution.. hot dog, javascript on Safari simply blows any other browser out of the water. FAAASSSST! So my favorite weapon of choice is still FF3..but Opera 9.5 is closing in as my fav (once dragonfly really takes off, it will be interesting to see if its better than Firefly or any other FF webdev extensions..) Cheers, NRG rikmoncur 07-07-2008, 06:19 AM UPDATE: Kevin Roth's Cross-Browser Rich Text Editor (RTE) has been updated to fix a bug with Firefox 3. http://www.kevinroth.com/rte/ PHP Builder
