I'm in a web design class and am the project manager of a team that's redesigning a website for a nonprofit client. The client's website (http://pointsnortheast.org/) needs a lot of help as you can see!

My client is unhappy with his web host and wants a new one. I suggested that the client use DreamHost (based in Los Angeles) because they provide free web hosting for nonprofits. He's unsure after seeing a few negative reviews online.

The client's web host requirements are below:

-PHP
-MySQL
-1GB server space
-$20 or less per month
-Excellent customer service

What West Coast web hosts do you recommend? My client is based in the Seattle area.

Thanks!:)

Any particular reason you want to restrict yourself to the west coast?

For up to $20/month, your choices are pretty much open to any shared hosting plan out there. For your stated requirements, it should be no problem finding many choices in the $4-$5 per month price range. For instance, check out the godaddy.com (https://www.godaddy.com/gdshop/hosting/shared.asp?ci=9009)Linux shared hosting plans[/url].

I don't know of too many west-coast hosts. I do know there are plenty of hosts that are based elsewhere but have the physical servers in Texas, Chicago, DC, Virginia, New York.

I don't know of too many CA based companies that actually host from california. Reason being the earth quakes. One earth quake could destroy your service for a couple days or so. Typically hosting companies choose a more stable place to house their datacenters.

Just search for some hosting companies. If you have questions, ask their support where their datacenter is located (or their NOC).

I do know coreISP.nl has a San Jose datacenter.

If the locale/timezone setting is an issue, that is easily overridden within your scripts.
