RH7 PHP RPM and informix ifx.so

I'm running Redhat 7.0 using the PHP4.04pl1.rpm files.
I need the ifx.so file for informix as a shared object.

How do I go about compiling PHP 4.0.4 with shared library support so I can build informix to compile as a shared module (ifx.so)? I have the informix client SDK and have sucessfully built it as an apache module (all as php.so or whatever). But not sure how to build just the straight ifx.so module so I can tie it into the RPM version of php?
