date function going nutty...

is there any reason that the date function would suddenly start reporting it is january 1999, when my system clock is correct, and i have run the exact same version of php and the script for months with no problems?

Did that change coinside with an upgrade of some part of the server?
Are you feeding the date function with any variables that may have reached their limits?
