Unhappy mixed feelings (mostly bad)

Hi from Greece.

I'm a php developer and your (old) forum was many times the answers to my questions. Today I noticed the new look and intergation of VB. VB is very powerfull but I believe that search features are much much more limited from old forum.

I think I read somewhere in an another post that all old articles (archive) are inserted already in VB and are browseable from here. Unfortunately the search didn't work. I was looking for keywords "URL out of a HTML-File" and on old search forum found exactly the title I was looking for but on VB the results were zero! (please try yourself the search on both forums)

Maybe I did something wring or old posts are not inserted yet.

I would have a suggestion. Activate the old forum only for browsing (no new posts, no new users ... everything new directly to VB).

Hope my feelings will become from and to

Thanks
Stratos

Well I actually stopped using the old forum due to the lack of email responders, and the amount of spam/trolling by anonymous users.

IMO, this change to vB has saved PHPBuilder - the fact that they got the old posts converted across is a bonus.

If you can't find what you're looking for try posting it as topic again - you'll likely get a much more up to date answer.

Thumbs down vb

The only downside of vB is that it isn't threaded like the old forums. And even that isn't awful because of Reply with Quote (which people here have been using very intelligently compared to some other forums I've been to).

And it looks a hell of a lot better, and I agree with you dannys that it has saved PHPBuilder (of course, I only arrived here in full force a day before it switched, I've had an account since May but haven't used it too much. I think there's been a lot more activity here as of late.

Even though I probably wouldn't use it or anything like it on my site (I like to write these kinds of things myself, even if they're a little sub-par), these things (vB forums) are so damn fun to use because of how nice they look (especially at 1600x1200 ).

I'm actually suprised that vB still doesn't actually support threaded display modes as an option.

Same here - I never like using others' work - the only good software is the software written by the user

Dannys thanks for your response and I can really understand the reasons. Anyway I will send it as new topic.

For the rest guys replied, I prefer ready made sollutions but I never use them as they are. I always hack the scripts adding more security, features, etc. I prefer this because I save a lot of time building code even I have created a good (small) library of classes-scripts.

Cool

I actually like this board better. The only thing missing is the RSS feeding I used on my site. But it's alright since I'm more likely to check this board daily now.

At the old board, I would post something to help someone and I would never see that thread again. This one allows tracking, which I love.

And there are ! You gotta love these too.

i like ikonboard better but, this one is basically the same, much better from the old forum, to hard to read that one, you could spend a good 5 minutes just reading each topic trying to find yours.

i myself am a phpBB freak and would prefer that board.

but vb is a LOT better than that phorum crap you guys had on before. so well done there!

i don't like the choice of background colors on this forum. perhaps you should let us configure it :-). or at least install some themes we can pick from.

you know what I truely hate: THOSE UGLY ADS!!@#! Okay okay, so you need to funds to run the site. Fair enough :-). But i hate seeing the same old wireless wap crap every time I enter this site. maybe you should do more side ads than top ads.

final note: keep up the excellent job guys! Like dannys, i feel much more confortable posting in the new forums. i hope in the future you can find some full time writers and editors to constantly write new articles and really help the newbies out. you should do a FAQ manager or something so newbies can look there before posting the same questions over and over again .

If they upgrade to VB3 this option will be included.

I've been interested to see how this goes as I'm considering phpBB for my site (similar look and feel) and thought I'd miss being able to see upfront the activity on a post as I'd only read them if a) they were relevant and with alot of activity or b) they were unanswered.

Well, I really like the change, well done. I especially like the ability show code more neatly. The only quibble is the sideways scroll when lines are too long but it's not a biggie.

thanks

Lightbulb vb3--interesting

Interesting. Is it available yet or what? None of the places I've been to, even the ones that've started recently, use it. Is it more money or something?

vB3 is still in beta, I think. vbulletin.com's support forum is using the beta now.
