Why vBulletin and not phpBB? Just a question

Why did the PHP Builder team choose to use vBulletin instead of phpBB? Specifically, what requirements did the PHP Builder team have for a new forum? Does vBulletin scale better than phpBB?

This is just a question, I don't want to start a flame war.

internet.com is converting all their forums to vB. I personally haven't tried phpBB but I've coded several sites that use vB and love it, so I was happy about the choice.

Having installed and hacked both systems, my personal favorite is vB. Yes, it costs money, but it is by far better IMO. The options for administrators are superb.

I agree the admin panel of phpbb1 was a huge disaster. the new version (phpBB2) has a much better admin panel. The new phpBB is a serious compatition for vB right now.

I doubt that, I run both and vB is far superior to phpBB2 in functionality. If phpBB incorporates a better template management system and user grouping then there might be some competition. However phpBB's no cost is a big plus.

Glad to see the change to vB, much improved!

think its a matter of taste and how you use it.. usually when i implent something like a bb i rip it apart and modify it for the site..
for example.. i always rip the authentication scripts out of applications and use my own. Second i want a application like a bb have more functionality that is site specific..

the code of phpbb is a little more logical to me so i really preffer phpbb. As i admitted vB is a very good bb but i dont agree that "vB is far superior to phpBB2" on the whole line of aspects!

I agree that if you are ripping it apart, phpBB is better. However out of the box and installed vB is much more powerful in the admin functions imho.

hmz again.. think this is a endless conversation.. same as the discussion why linux is better as windows.. or windows is better as linux. In this case and the discussed case here it has a lot to do with HOW you use it.
My point is that phpbb2 is improving very rapidly and becomes serious competition to vB.

for me this is a typical case of "end of discussion"..
