NuSphere PHPEd

I've been struggling to find a good editor under Linux for some time. Though we have solutions like gvim, emacs & quanta, which in their own right are incredible, it proves to be a tedious task when managing multiple projects remotely. I spent a great deal of time trying to customize gvim and am delighted with the solution, but it stands well for local development.

Quanta has a nice GUI and is quite flexible, terrible remote management support though.

Zend Studio is as unstable as an application can get (windows or linux). Firstly, it crashes. Then it crashes again. I have plenty of memory and plenty of processing power, so it irritates me to no end when it hangs for no visible reason. You end up killing the process, killing the java threads and restarting the damn thing.

NuSphere's PHPEd for Linux however proves to be a superb PHP environment. Movement within the program is very quick (as opposed to Zend Studio's clunky environment -- the primary competitor).

The editing environment can be customized to a certain extent, though window placement for various display options is fixed.

Remote management of projects works very well, the FTP interface is lightening quick and navigation options accommodate the small area assigned nicely (as opposed to Quanta).

Now the product is designed for RedHat Linux and I am running on the unstable debian branch -- plus I have fonts from hell installed which log various errors in .xsessions. Having said that, the program has simply shut down without leaving much of a trail. I've contacted NuSphere support but am yet to hear back from them (as I am not a paying client and still evaluating the product).

Anyone else have thoughts on NuSphere's PHPEd, please do share them. If you're running under windows, how stable is the environment for the most part?

since +2 years i code php with PhpEd , ithink that is the most and the best

but now is not free with nusphere but u can get the lest free ver

NuSphere reliesed new version (3.1.1) last week! and I agree with you regardind zend. PHPEd is much more functional, stabile and way ahead from zend. I realy love PHPEd!

BTW, I had the same problem with Studio, but it was my connection. I moved to an area that didn't have broadband (on my side of the street

) for the first month. I ran a wireless connection to the cyber cafe across the street and naturally it would drop off on occasion. Once I went to a 1 meg line, the hangs went away.

I was able to check out the beta of PHPEd 3.1 and it was great, but was still in beta, so there were a few bugs left.

I haven't got an answer for you're specific question, but I too have recently discovered the wonders of PHPEd.

I'm running 3.1.1 on WindowsXP, with remote debugging on a linux server. SUHWEET!

The biggest thing that I think could use some improvement is the CVS interface. It's missing 'diff' support at the very least.

I've used EditPlus for a couple of years now, and making the switch was hard. But well worth it.

Hey largo, I just spoke to Zeev tonight and he told me there was a problem with Java, prior to the 1.4.1 release. It had to do with screen refreshes.

He says it should be fixed in 2.6 and is sending me the beta, so I'll let you know.

i used phped for a year. it was really good. but then i discovered maguma studio for PHP... and i just couldnt go back to phped. it has just about everything.

my problems with Zend Studio actually went away recently and I am quite happy with the program.

I updated my system a few weeks back which resulted in zend studio completely dying. Sun's java prior to 1.4.1 I believe makes a call to a private function in libc. This function was later removed from the lib and resulted in java being broken on my system when the library was updated.

I updated to java 1.4.1 and linked zend studio (2.5) to it and it actually improved performance by quite a bit. Other than being much more stable (can't remember when it last hung), it's quite speedy too.

I do have a problem creating files / folders remotely on servers (results in a java error). Mayb Studio 2.6 will help solve that. However, that really is a minor issue, Zend Studio is very much my editor of choice these days.

If you could, please highlight some of the key features / improvements in studio 2.6. Maybe in the other forum

I can tell you one thing about Zend {IT WORKS WITH JAVA} and that's because it's never stabile and slow as turtle.

"Everything" - in maguma? lol
You can get their "Everything" for 1995,00 Euro...creazy...

Must tell you that this soft is almost dead.
They didn't even updated their Maguma Studio for an year.

BTW: I started with Maguma and shifted to PHPEd!!!
Why?
I'm working (almost an year) in PHPEd Advantage and I've got in that year (2002) 2 new versions and 5 updates of PHPEd...not bed right? What did magma for their customers? They made 0 (zero) new versions and 1 little update (from 1.0 to 1.0.4) after 8 month...

Also sales guys from PHPEd gave me about 25% discount, when I wrote them all the reasons why I've shifted to PHPEd. 8)

Do not be mad at me if the reply was too rough.
I'm just disapointed and angry to Maguma, that's all.

Zend stinks. PHPEd rules. As for your question, I've been running Windows XP with PHPEd 3 for ages. I have had it open for like 14 hours today without any problems at all.

Hi, guys!!!
I got some problems with PHPEd.

I have already set up Apache 1.3.23 (in c:\Program Files\Apache Group\Apache directory) and PHP 4.2.3 (in c:\php directory) on WinME machine.
I was looking for a good PHP-debugeer, and I read that PHPED is the best. But when I install in on my machine (in c:\Program Files\nusphere\) and run script in debugger it wrote to me:

Security Alert! The PHP CGI cannot be accessed directly.
This PHP CGI binary was compiled with force-cgi-redirect enabled. This means that a page will only be served up if the REDIRECT_STATUS CGI variable is set, e.g. via an Apache Action directive.
