Actually, it's an FTP problem

Hey guys. I have a problem and I didn't know where else to seek help.

Suddenly, I find myself unable to ftp to any of my sites. It's quite strange and I was able to do it fine a couple of days ago.

I first discovered the problem when using ftp commander (freeware version). I was trying to log onto one of my sites and I kept getting the error about my login being incorrect. I had my client save my pwords, so I was pretty sure this wasn't the problem, but I still I double checked the pass words and then logged into the system administrator using windows and was able to access the site using the same username/pword combo.

So, then I thought I would try ftping through IE. When I typed in the ftp address I got a page not found error.

So, i thought I would contact my server's tech support. I went back to ftp commander so I could cut and paste the error message into the body of the message. I accidently selected one of my other sites (different server company) and was given an authentication error. (curiouser and curiouser).

I returned to IE explorer and typed in the ftp address of the other site. Another 404 error.

So whatever it is that is wrong, it's affecting two different methods of FTP and it's affecting more than one site.

I even tried disabling my firewall briefly, just to see if it was somehow interfering with the process. It didn't affect the results.

Has anyone ever encountered this problem before?

It sounds to me like its a problem with your ftp server. If you don't have root access to the server (which it sounds like you don't) then you need to get back to the hosting company's tech support people.
