Help with css stylesheet

Very new at css. I have a footer image in my .css file.
Now I want to be able to put 2 paragraphs side by side because that is what my footer pictures is of. But when i write text for one then for another it automatically places the text under neath the first set of text.
I want to set up two paragraphs side by side like you would do in regualer html with tables. Hope you understand what I mean. Any help would be great.
