php4 on win32

This is my first time ever using php and I am currently being hosted by a friend on a cable modem. He installed php4, and although he thinks he did everything right I suspect that he missed something because I cannot get even a basic echo to execute. The directory that my site is set up in on his computer is tyr. All of my pages are present in this or a subdirectory of this. When I try to put a document with the phtml extension I get the following error message however:
Not Found

The requested URL /php3/php.exe/tyr/pwdtest.phtml was not found on this server.

Apache/1.3.12 Server at [blank for my host's privacy] Port 80

I cannot understand this message, and although I have tried placing the phtml file in the php3 directory (as well as in the normal directory for my own html files) I have had no success in getting php to work at all. Any help would be greatly appreciated, especially because I am not able to be physically present at his computer to test things. Thanks in advance.

RE: php4 on win32

check your httpd.conf
in the apache/conf dir..

and check that the script alias for php is correct.

for:

ScriptAlias /php3/ "C:/Program Files/php/"
