This week we saw:
XAMPP Catches Up with the Times and Plugs some Holes
You can now install updated versions of XAMPP for Windows, Linux and Mac OS X. This popular installer is now offering Apache version 2.0.54, MySQL version 4.1.12, and PHP version 5.0.3 (among other packages installed for you with this software). Incidentally, this release also patches a recently reported Secunia security advisory, which can be seen here: http://secunia.com/advisories/15735/ You can download these packages by visiting the Apache Friends site: http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp.html (Is it me or does that chick look exactly like Ozzy Osbourne? phpLocator.com is Born
The good folks at phpdeveloper.org have launched a new site designed to act as a database of PHP coders and their location/skills/employment status, etc. which will enable companies to find coders by location, as well as connect PHPers with other local PHPers. Looks like the site is still a work in progress, but it is up and running if you want to sign up. To do so, go to http://www.phplocator.com/.
More Info About International PHP Conference Now Available
There is now a little more info available on the International PHP Conference to be held November 6-9, 2005. No session information is available, but pricing and location information is there, and registration is functional through the site. Early bird discount applies to registrations until October 30, so you still have plenty of time to make your travel plans for Frankfurt. A PHP Foundation?
Robert Peake states his case in favor of a PHP Foundation (similar to the Perl Foundation) in a recent blog post. He thinks its about time there was a true non-profit organization created to help keep PHP in the forefront and preserve its legitimacy as a programming language. (Amen to that, Robert).
