Joomla is Born

The developers formerly known as "Mambo Developers" have spawned their own offspring in answer to recent disagreements. The new "baby Joomla" can be seen (and downloaded) at For those unfamiliar with the saga, this newest addition to the CMS world is basically a spin-off of Mambo.

Davey Shafik on Pro-PHP

This latest episode of Pro-PHP includes an interview with Davey Shafik. From the site: "A great conversation with Davey Shafik, author of the Cerebral Cortex PHP 5 Framework and big time PEAR contributor. Davey shares his history in PHP, his love of PHP 5 and why Cerebral Cortex is the framework you shoul use and contribute to." Zend Core for Oracle (beta) Released

Attention die hard PHP/Oracle fans; soon your lives will be much easier. Although it's still in beta, it looks quite promising. From the Zend press release: "The production version of Zend Core for Oracle, available later this year, will deliver a fully tested and supported environment that provides tight integration between Oracle® Database and Zend's supported PHP environment. It enables developers to get up and running in minutes with PHP, the popular open source Web development language, using an Oracle infrastructure. Zend Core for Oracle also delivers an updated PHP "OCI8" driver, providing enhanced reliability, stability and performance for Oracle Database-driven Web applications." PEAR/PECL Releases

I would be remiss in my duties if I didn't include what's new at PEAR and PECL. Recent PEAR releases include:
  • PHP_Archive 0.6.1 - Create and Use PHP Archive files
  • Services_Technorati 0.6.4beta - A class for interacting with the Technorati API
  • HTML_Safe 0.3.5 - This parser strips down all potentially dangerous content within HTML
  • MP3_Playlist 0.5.0alpha1 - Library to create MP3 playlists on the fly, several formats supported including XML, RSS and XHTML
  • HTTP_Session 0.5.1 - Object-oriented interface to the session_* family functions
  • LiveUser_Admin 0.3.4 - User authentication and permission management framework
  • LiveUser 0.16.6 - User authentication and permission management framework
  • Net_IPv6 1.0.5 - Check and validate IPv6 addresses
  • HTML_QuickForm_advmultiselect 1.0.0 - Element for HTML_QuickForm that emulate a multi-select.

And for PECL, we had:
