PHP6: The Future of PHP

As you may or may not know, many of the PHP core developers recently met after the International PHP Conference to discuss the future of PHP: PHP6. Because many of the topics regarding PHP6 that were discussed before this meeting were basically just speculation and personal opinion, I've tried not to stir any controversy by including them in my articles here. But since Derick Rethans has posted the minutes from that meeting, if you haven't been keeping up with the PHP internals list, you can get your first glimpse into the future of PHP by checking out what's in store: You'll notice main topics include unicode support, some backwards compatibility issues (that are necessary for security reasons, such as good ol' register_globals), some PECL issues, some additions to functionality, and some improvements to OOP. Very interesting stuff.

phpBB's New Team

In an effort to stave off criticism from the development world, phpBB has announced a new "Incident Investigation Team" whose purpose is to investigate any reported exploits, assist users in cleaning up an attacked install, inform and educate phpBB users on securing their phpBB app, and to collaborate with web hosts who might have security concerns for their customers. To read about how to to utilize this team's efforts, you can read the official announcement here:

PHPBuilder's New Look

Not to be outdone by others, PHPBuilder had its own site facelift this week, with a sleek new logo and look. It's been a long time coming and so far the feedback has been great. What do you think? I personally like the new look-- great job guys (and no, I'm not just saying that).
